Location - This role is in-person at North Campus, South Campus, Enterprise Square, Campus Saint-Jean, Augustana Camrose, and other U of A locations in Calgary.

Position Summary

The Junior AV System Designer/Installer is an exciting opportunity for tech-savvy innovators passionate about creating dynamic learning environments. This role is at the heart of the Learning Space Audio-Visual (LSAV) portfolio within the University of Alberta’s Digital Learning Environment (DLE). Here, you’ll collaborate with a forward-thinking team that shapes how students and educators connect, learn, and grow.

Duties

  • Collaborate with the LSAV team to design, install, and maintain AV systems in learning spaces and meeting rooms.
  • Provide tier 2 support for audiovisual and control systems, ensuring seamless operation and user satisfaction.
  • Integrate AV technologies into network infrastructures using foundational knowledge of switches and VLANs.
  • Explore and implement cutting-edge tools, including virtual and mixed reality, to enhance teaching environments.
  • Stay ahead of AV trends, championing innovative solutions for hybrid and blended learning models.
  • Contribute to creating engaging, tech-driven spaces that support educators, administrators, and students.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in the area of media, design, theatre production, radio/television, and/or IT
  • 3+ years experience in the audiovisual or IT industry
  • Intermediate to advanced technical knowledge of web and video conferencing systems
  • Experience within an educational environment
  • Experience with video and audio editing software
  • Experience with training both groups and individuals
  • Demonstrated analytical and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Class 5 Full Licence, non-GDL Driver Licence
  • IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) - Foundations Course an asset
  • Strong communication (oral and written), problem solving, analytical and time management skills
  • AVIXA AV Essentials
  • Ability to converse in multiple languages would be an asset
  • Be able to deal with change and ambiguity
  • Excellent customer service skills
