Key ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresAssist in risk assessments, hazard analyses, inspections, and audits of mining and construction activitiesAssist in investigating incidents and near-misses with the HSSER teamDevelop and distribute communications and bulletinsSupervise compliance with Health, Safety, Security and ER regulations and company policiesMaintain and update records, reports, and presentationsSupport improvements to HSSER, PPE, and related policies and proceduresCoordinate and develop emergency and security drills and mine evacuation proceduresCollaborate with the security team to improve security protocols and report suspicious activitiesReview and update safety protocols for mining and construction operationsAssist with management of HSSER and security equipment and suppliesAssist with patrols of construction scopes and facilities to ensure safety and securitySupport implementation of access control measures for mining and construction sites QualificationsCurrently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, or related fieldStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamBasic knowledge of health and safety regulations and standard processes is a plusProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Basic knowledge of emergency response and security protocols is a plusA valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required Preferred CertificationsFirst Aid and CPR CertificationWHMIS CertificationAny volunteer service – St. John’s Ambulance, Emergency Response, Fire Hall, etc. All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug and medical screening prior to commencing work.
