We are seeking employees with a passion for public service who share our commitment to creating a complete, inclusive, and livable community.ResponsibilitiesSkilled manual work in the performance of specialized pipe laying as applied to mainline and service connections for water, storm sewer and sanitary sewerSetting thrust blocks, installing hydrants and valvesEnsuring proper installation of fittings, and wet and dry pipe tappingExperience in GIS map reading, reading and understanding of design drawings, using utility locating equipment, and completing record drawingsAssigning and checking the work of junior positions engaged in related but less skilled tasksTaking charge of the crew in the absence of the ForepersonPerforming other duties as requiredGeneral knowledge and use of a laptopQualificationsThe preferred candidate will possess considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in pipe laying and fitting operations; the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; the ability to understand and fulfill oral and written instructions and work from plans and layouts; knowledge of the safety precautions entailed in utilities construction, pipe laying and fitting operations; and the ability to work effectively and efficiently both alone and in a team environment.Successful candidate has considerable experience in utilities construction related works especially relating to pipe fitting in water, sewer and drainage applications. Experience as a foreperson/supervisor is considered an asset. EOCP Water Distribution 1 certified or in the process of certification.Possession and retention of a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for BC is mandatory. The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. Successful candidates will be required to provide an acceptable driver’s abstract, a police information check, and copies of relevant credentials.
