Responsibilities
The West Vancouver Engineering Construction Department is looking for a motivated and committed Pipefitter to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. Reporting to one of the Utilities Construction Foreperson, the key responsibilities for this position includes:

  • Skilled manual work in the performance of specialized pipe laying as applied to mainline and service connections for water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer
  • Setting thrust blocks, installing hydrants and valves
  • Ensuring proper installation of fittings, and wet and dry pipe tapping
  • Experience in GIS map reading, reading and understanding of design drawings, using utility locating equipment, and completing record drawings
  • Assigning and checking the work of junior positions engaged in related but less skilled tasks
  • Taking charge of the crew in the absence of the Foreperson
  • Performing other duties as required
  • General knowledge and use of a laptop

The preferred candidate will possess considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in pipe laying and fitting operations; the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; the ability to understand and fulfill oral and written instructions and work from plans and layouts; knowledge of the safety precautions entailed in utilities construction, pipe laying and fitting operations; and the ability to work effectively and efficiently both alone and in a team environment.

The successful candidate has considerable experience in utilities construction related works especially relating to pipe fitting in water, sewer and drainage applications. Experience as a foreperson / supervisor is considered an asset to these positions. EOCP Water Distribution 1 certified or in the process of certification.

Possession and retention of a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence for BC is mandatory. The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. Successful candidates will be required to provide an acceptable driver's abstract, a police information check, and copies of relevant credentials.
