As a Lane Closure Technician (LCT), you play an essential role in supporting the safety of your fellow roadworkers, crews and members of public on the road. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient set up, maintenance, and removal of traffic control measures in various work zones across the lower mainland. You will work with contractors involved in heavy underground, light utility, electrical, paving, road building, and special events. You role will be instrumental in ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while minimizing traffic disruptions, upholding standards, and providing a secure work environment for our teams and community.What you will be responsible for:Traffic ControlLead Traffic Control persons, providing direction and guidance to set up and tear down signs, work zone delineations, and ensure safe traffic control.Set up traffic control zones.Give clear and precise traffic control directions and signals for motorists' understanding.Monitor the traffic and work zone and modify when scope of work changes.Safety and ComplianceEffectively conduct traffic control at worksites within the scope of training to protect workers, the public, and our employees.Comply with all Acts, Regulations, Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures for health and safety.Participate in accident/incident investigations as required and complete necessary forms and reports for due diligence and compliance.Special Events and MeetingsConduct traffic control at Special Events when required, following the direction of the company's Special Events coordinator.Attend health and safety tool-box/tailgate meetings to discuss work related matters.Hazards must be addressed in a Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) and must be complete prior to work commencing.Reporting and CommunicationReport directly to the contractor's site supervisor, taking their direction for traffic control setup and safety if no Lane Closure Technician or Traffic Control Supervisor from the company is on-site.Report health and safety matters, non-compliance issues, or conflicts with any company employee to the company's Area Manager or Health and Safety Officer.Safety Gear and EquipmentAlways wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by WorkSafeBC regulations or site safety rules, policies, or procedures.Use proper protocol when using two-way radios and refrain from the use of profane or vulgar language.Certification and TrainingEnsures the BC Traffic Control Person (TCP) certificate is maintained to be current and valid at all times.What you get from us:Signing bonus of $1000 for experienced LCTs (terms and conditions apply).A new company pickup truck and gas cardA highly experienced and knowledgeable Health & Safety department dedicated to your safety on site.Excellent total compensation package and vacation pay paid out on every cheque.Exclusive Corporate Discounts (TELUS, HelloFresh, etc.).Medical and Dental benefit coverage after probationary period.Opportunities for growth into higher level positions, including field, operations and health and safety positions.What we need from you:Minimum 6 months of BC LCT experience.Current TCP certification recognized by WorkSafeBC or equivalent provincial regulator.Drivers License with a clean driving record.Possession of and ability to use a smartphone with a data plan.Good knowledge and understanding of the WorkSafeBC Regulations for Traffic Control, Part 18.Knowledge and understanding of the WCB Act, sections 115-117, General Duties.Knowledge and understanding of the Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways as developed by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.Knowledge of the requirements of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act and other regulations related to traffic control.Ensures accountability - holding self and others accountable to meet commitments.Collaborates - Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.Manages conflict - Handling conflict situations effectively.Directs Work - Provides directions, delegates, and removes obstacles to get work done.Situational adaptability - adapting approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations.Plans and aligns - plans and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.Where/When you will be working:Dispatchable region across the lower mainland.Available 5 weekdays (Mon-Fri).Occasional weekend work available.Working outdoors in all elements and weather.The recruitment process for this role typically lasts1week and includes a phone screen, behavioral assessment and an in-person interview.Why Universal Group?The Universal Group is driven by our purpose to provide Peace of Mind to both our clients and team members.
