Position Overview

The Intensive Child & Family Worker plays a vital role in keeping families together by supporting the family's emotional well-being throughout the treatment process. The service helps the family address crisis, understand the treatment needs of the identified child or children, and maintain or improve its ability to function as a healthy and effective system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage primary caregivers, siblings, and extended family members in the treatment process
  • Provide emotional support to family members throughout the treatment process
  • Help the family understand the treatment needs of the identified child or children
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Human Services Diploma (HBSW) preferred; minimum two-year diploma required
  • Minimum two years of direct service and counseling experience with children, adolescents, and families
  • Significant experience in family intervention and/or group facilitation
  • Candidates without specific education qualifications may be considered if they possess an appropriate combination of experience and academic qualifications
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Search, including Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Ability to work flexible hours according to the needs of families
  • Travel within the city of Thunder Bay and work in homes and locations familiar to client families
  • Able to complete and maintain certification in CANS and other relevant Ministry of Children and Youth Services initiatives
