Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.Job Summary: Working collaboratively with key partners and stakeholders on campus, the Indigenous Graduate and Postdoctoral Specialist will be responsible for planning, developing and managing new and existing initiatives that advance strategic priorities to enhance holistic Indigenous graduate student success.Responsibilities include:Plan, develop and manage initiatives and programs that support Indigenous graduate student and postdoctoral success.Provide mentorship and advising throughout the UBC experience, from pre‑application to program completion.Build networking and social engagement opportunities for Indigenous students, postdocs, senior faculty and staff.Identify systemic barriers and inform strategic direction and policy.Coordinate with academic and administrative units, including Enrolment Services, First Nations House of Learning, and other campus partners.Participate as a key member of working groups dedicated to Indigenous student support (e.g., Indigenous Student Support Services Team).Maintain Indigenous sections on the G+PS website and other communications platforms.Support orientation events, graduation ceremonies, and alumni engagement.Develop and facilitate workshops and seminars on Indigenous graduate success.Collaborate with UBC Career Centre and program offices for career advising and resources.Assist with funding and awards initiatives for Indigenous students and postdoctoral scholars.Support policy reviews and propose improvements to enhance admissions, enrollment, and retention of Indigenous graduate students.Propose and oversee new initiatives and pilot programs related to Indigenous graduate student success.Minimum Qualifications:Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.Minimum of three to four years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.Preferred Qualifications:Graduate level university degree.Experience working with Indigenous students and/or communities, preferably UBC experience.In-depth knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and socioeconomic issues in British Columbia and Canada.Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.Leadership, project management, and organizational skills.Ability to think creatively and innovate solutions to organizational challenges.Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and meet deadlines.Reporting Line: Reports to the Director, Student Academic Support and works closely with Enrolment Services and First Nations House of Learning.Additional information: The role plays a central and highly visible part of campus, requiring careful handling of admissions and candidate interactions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
