Together we are responsible for workplace safety, fire safety, pensions, apprenticeship, adult education and many other facets of everyday life.About Our OpportunityThe Technical Safety Division plays a vital role in ensuring public and workplace safety across Nova Scotia. This position contributes directly to that mandate through engineering expertise and regulatory support. Reporting to the Director of Compliance and Inspection, the Technical Safety Engineer will contribute to a range of safety-related programs and initiatives within the Safety Branch. With a focused discipline in electrical engineering this role offers an excellent opportunity for a developing engineer to build their career while making a meaningful impact.Primary AccountabilitiesConduct research, assessments and provide recommendations on electrical engineering issues.Review technical documents including reports, proposals, plans and specifications.Support program experts in continuous improvement initiatives.Provide analytical options to inform management on regulations and enforceable standards.Assist in developing and implementing technical education and outreach programs.Participate in technical working groups to enhance electrical safety.Offer technical and consultative support to industry consultants, researchers and the public.Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent.Current membership or eligibility for membership as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training with Engineers Nova Scotia.Knowledge of emerging trends in electrical safety and industrial technologies.Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the Technical Safety mandate and regulations.Strong communication, consultation and conflict resolution skills.EquivalencyAn equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.
