Learning and Evaluation Specialist (Lawyer), CPLED Join to apply for the Learning and Evaluation Specialist (Lawyer), CPLED role at Law Society of Alberta The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) is a non‑profit organization that offers the Bar admission program in Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia, and in Fall 2026 will also offer the Bar admission program in British Columbia as well. To be called to the Bar, students must article and complete CPLED’s Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP). CPLED is dedicated to helping students hone their practical skills and assesses how well they are able to apply their legal knowledge and skills in everyday situations. This helps ensure new lawyers are well‑equipped to meet the demands of the workplace. CPLED maintains a high standard of programs and services for students to ensure a strong transition into the legal profession. Key Responsibilities Design and develop materials, resources, and assignments for the PREP, and any future courses that may be developed in the future; Ensure program content maintains relevance through ongoing research and monitoring of changes/developments in the law, and make revisions of PREP and other course content as required; Design and develop new course material such as virtual law firm (VLF) simulations, and foundation modules and workshop content, ensuring they align with CPLED’s Competency Framework, and meet CPLED’s learning objectives; Revise, design, and develop training materials for Assessors, Evaluators, Facilitators, and Practice Managers; Facilitate and provide instruction on the delivery of PREP and other courses in an online environment, to Assessors, Evaluators, Facilitators, and Practice Managers; Assist in the review of candidate/student submissions and associated assessments or evaluations; Assist in the development and delivery of foundation workshops, remedial courses, programs, skills sessions or other supports for PREP candidates during the phases of PREP and/or after unsuccessful Capstone sitting(s); Provide support and guidance to candidates through Practice Manager meetings during the VLF stage of PREP; Provide advice, coaching and mentoring to all contractor roles including Assessors, Evaluators, Facilitators, and Practice Managers; Assist with the completion of review reports for Assessors and Evaluators, and provide any necessary follow up training identified as needed; Assist in the delivery of collaborative, practical, and relevant training, creating the optimum adult learning environment based on adult learning theory; Respond to candidate questions and inquiries during all stages of PREP; Maintain assessment/evaluation design and development standards to ensure assessment/evaluation integrity; Identify and mitigate risks that may impact the quality or on‑time delivery of assessments/evaluations; Collaborate with the program’s leadership team to define and execute assessment/evaluation policies, processes, and best practices; and Complete Capstone Reviews following a candidate’s unsuccessful Capstone evaluation. Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem. Timeliness: Commit to a deadline and meet those deadlines in a timely manner. Compassion: Treat internal and external customers with dignity and compassion and work with customers to find solutions within the guidelines of CPLED’s policies. Qualifications Post‑secondary education and law degree required with 5+ years of progressively responsible post‑call experience. Practice experience in the areas of family law, criminal law, and/or business law. Experience managing a legal practice is preferred. Certificate in Adult Education or equivalent work experience (or agreement to take certificate or other programs) Project management experience is an asset. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders. Technically strong computer skills, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint). Prior experience with D2L and creating assessments/evaluations is considered an asset. Collaboration skills, with an ability to work with all individuals and groups. Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure. A desire and capability for growth to meet additional requirements added to this position over time.
