The Opportunity

The Project Engineer primarily serves as the Engineer-of-Record on projects they are assigned. On some projects they may perform a role of project leader and on others work more significantly under the direction of a Project Manager to develop design concepts which are incorporated into the final product by a project team. The Project Engineer should play a key role in mentoring new team members, organizing workload, and ensuring project milestones are achieved.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Effectively coordinate assigned projects through the municipal design approval process as the Engineer-of-Record for the project.
  2. Direct involvement with the detailed engineering design process, guidance of technical support staff as needed to ensure completion of the design objectives, approvals, and documents.
  3. Exercise judgment on the appropriateness of engineering requirements identified by municipal jurisdictions.
  4. Attend meetings with clients, contractors and municipal staff and make notes and records of the outcomes of these meetings for project record purposes.
  5. Meet project milestone events in accordance with client and municipal deadlines.
  6. Track project progress and obtain authorizations/approvals for changes in schedule/scope.
  7. Contract Administration and Management.
  8. Responsible for the fundamental aspects of project management of assigned projects including budget tracking and invoicing.
  9. Provides mentorship and evaluation of junior staff.

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Minimum 4 years of local experience in design of land development or capital works projects.
  2. Valid Driver’s License.
  3. Ability to work simultaneously on several different projects.
  4. Consistently able to produce accurate, high-quality work.
  5. Experienced and knowledgeable of technical design issues, constructability, cost, and design approvals.
