The Upgrading and University Preparation (UUP) department at UFV invites applications from qualified individuals for a Permanent Faculty appointment to teach the six courses of the Workplace Training in Attitudes, Skills, and Knowledge (TASK) program:
- TASK 051 (Personal and Workplace Essentials);
- TASK 053 (Safety and Industry Certificates);
- TASK 054 (Work Experience I);
- TASK 055 (Work Experience II);
- TASK 056 (Personal and Career Portfolio).
Teaching will be in a learner-centered environment with timely constructive feedback, incorporating EDID and Indigenization. It is expected that the candidate has a strong knowledge base recognized by both students and peers.
TASK is a cohort-based pre-employment program for adults with disabilities who want to explore employment opportunities and prepare for a job. During the first semester (September to December), students learn about their strengths and weaknesses, effective communication strategies, and self-management in the workplace. Under the supervision of the TASK instructor, students also receive safety and industry training from experts in WHMIS, FoodSafe, SuperHost, and First Aid. In the second semester (January to April), students put their skills to the test in a series of work-experience placements with local businesses, research job openings, prepare resumes, and develop a personal portfolio.
With the help of the UUP department, the successful candidate will interview potential TASK students, as needed, and establish and monitor work experience placements in the community. As part of service activities, the successful candidate will be expected to liaise within the department, faculty, community agencies, and Accessible Education and Training (AET) provincial articulation.
Scholarly activities are also expected, which include participation in scholarly networks, conferences, workshops, and publications, and professional development activities that can incorporate EDID and Indigenization. It is anticipated that the candidate will incorporate their scholarly work into teaching.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education or related field from a recognized/accredited university

- Minimum two years’ experience working with adults with disabilities
- Experience working in a post-secondary environment preferred

Indigenization, equity, and diversity are essential to our work as a university. A diverse community fosters the inclusion of voices that have been historically underrepresented and marginalized. At UFV, we are committed to recruiting a diverse workforce that represents the community we proudly serve. We encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, members of groups that experience discrimination due to race, colour, place of origin, ancestry, and/or religion, persons who identify as women and 2SLGBTQ+, and persons with disabilities. We invite applicants to complete a confidential self-identification survey as part of the application process. All questions are voluntary, with an option to decline to answer. Information will be used to support efforts to broaden the diversity of the recruitment process, and results are not shared with the selection committee. Inquiries about the survey may be directed to careers@ufv.ca. Learn more about our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. In an effort to be both environmentally and fiscally responsible, UFV will contact only candidates receiving an interview. We thank all applicants for considering UFV for employment.
