Director of Civil Construction

The Director of Civil Construction is a driven and entrepreneurial leader who will work together with the General Manager to guide the company towards success and ensure that it is poised for future growth, both strategically and operationally. This includes building on a proven track record and solidifying a long-term presence on southern Vancouver Island. b>
- Reporting directly to the General Manager
- Coordinate office selection and setup
- Manage all staffing including project estimators in partnership with human resources and head office
- Responsible for the Profit and Loss (P & L)
- Ensuring all available tenders are reviewed.
- Building the company’s presence across Vancouver Island by collaborating with various potential clients and companies.
- Ensure the safe delivery of services that meet or exceed customer and corporate expectations.
- Develop and execute leading-edge strategies and functions relating to the strategic planning for focused company growth, based on KPI.
- Work collaboratively with site managers, foremen, and superintendents (or all departments within the company) to maximize the use of equipment, labor, and resources while ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of service and materials.
- Extensive experience in estimating civil construction jobs.
- Demonstrated strong business judgment and experience with civil contracts, estimating, rate/cost management, and business development.
- Allocate budget resources, coordinate business operations, manage safety, monitor and motivate staff, manage operational costs, ensure good customer service, improve administration processes, engage with vendors, identify business opportunities, maintain relationships with clients, generate new business, improve services while ensuring sustainability and meeting business objectives.
- Participate in coaching, mentoring, and training programs.
- Proficiency with MS Office and Windows-based computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Construction Management Software).
- Overseeing and planning the overall construction projects initiation, management, and assessment, including requirements gathering, scope definition, creation of budget and schedule, staffing, and strict review/implementation of construction management projects.
- Identifying and controlling major project issues and risks, including mitigating and resolving risks/issues occurred in business operations in a timely manner.
- Setup and preparation of construction schedules.
- Maintain a safe working environment for all site personnel and ensure that the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act are enforced.
- Setup and preparation of construction activities to maintain and ensure that the project schedule is on target.
- Communicate daily with the Client, Consultants, Subcontractors, and Head Office to ensure answers to all concerns are addressed.
- Assistance and generation of quantity take-offs and cost estimates for ordering of supply of miscellaneous materials to be purchased for the project.
- Report to head office as required on a daily basis.
- Raise and discuss relevant issues at the job site meetings.
- Inform the Project Manager of any errors, discrepancies, or omissions contained within the Consultant’s design drawings.
- Coordinate and direct independent testing and inspections as required.
- Maintain and enforce good civil construction standards and quality control.
- Maintain control and responsibility for the security and operation of the company’s directly owned equipment on the job site.
- Control and monitor labor, material, and equipment expenses.
- A high school diploma with a minimum of 3 years work experience as a superintendent supporting civil construction activities.
- Sound understanding of Safety Regulations, Construction Safety Practices.
- Broad knowledge and skills in working with personnel and equipment on civil construction projects.Job Type: Full-time #
