Program Overview - Workforce Development, Community Programs
Workforce Development offers a variety program to support community members to improve their soft and technical skills and supports individuals to secure long-term employment in specific sectors. The Workforce Development team provides support to those who are unemployed or under-employed with specific skills training and employment supports for attachment with employers in various sectors.

What You Will Do

  • Perform case management duties, which include assessment, goal setting and the development of action plans with clients, ongoing intervention, re-assessment, case termination, and follow up.
  • Assessment duties to include administering a range of assessment tests including skills-based, occupational, and educational tests and using results to help clients explore options and make decisions about training and employment opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with training facilitator to support clients’ active and successful participation in training programs. This could include problem solving and client support around attendance, behaviour, comprehension, and other barriers to success.
  • Facilitate information sessions and workshops as needed.
  • Support clients in the use of an online platform to explore job opportunities.
  • Conduct in person (as possible), online, social media and phone-based outreach activities to attract and screen clients for programs and services. Conduct program information sessions and performs intake activities.
  • Locate and contact potential employers and finds job opportunities for clients.
  • Aid participants as they manage their life situation (eg. direct those in need to the appropriate service: housing, medical, childcare, and emotional wellness issues).
  • Identify barriers to learning and/or employment and refers participants to the appropriate source of support.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide crisis intervention in addition to maintaining a caseload.
  • Maintain detailed notes of client interaction. Enters and manages data in online client records and collects statistical data according to Program and Unit policies.
  • Work with other WoodGreen staff to provide interdisciplinary support to participants.
  • Ensure the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.

What You Bring to the Team
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Social Services or a related field(s).
  • 1-3 years of experience delivering employment-related services, ideally involving employment counselling, case management, job development, training, and assessment.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, ideally job seekers with multiple barriers.
  • Track record of successfully placing clients in employment.

What Will Set You Apart
  • Demonstrated casework, counselling, and group work skills.
  • Able to work effectively with a target population of mid-career workers.
  • Strong digital literacy skills, particularly in the areas of online job search, online learning, building an online presence and optimizing the use of LinkedIn.
  • Expert knowledge of employment-related information, including resume writing, interviewing, networking, and job search.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong presentation skills.
  • Skills in approaching and working successfully with employers to obtain placements or employment for clients with barriers.
  • Demonstrated intervention (including crisis intervention) skills and Knowledge in conflict resolution.
  • Well-developed writing skills in recording case notes and client file documentation.
  • Strong skills in accurate and timely data collection and reporting. Knowledge of Employment Ontario forms and guidelines is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, including internet research skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of social resources.
  • Knowledge of community development and job development.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet targets.
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings or weekends.
  • Able to work remotely at home, at a WoodGreen site, or in a public location as needed to meet with clients and employers. (Remote work is conducted using WoodGreen supplied laptop and phone.)
  • Able to travel to employer work sites to support client work placements.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to report to work at various WoodGreen locations throughout Toronto.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other computer components.
