Your day-to-day (summarized):

The OHS Consultant/Safety Practitioner plays a central role in creating and maintaining a safe working environment. In addition to ensuring regulatory compliance, the incumbent acts as an ambassador for the safety culture, positively influencing employee practices and behaviors at all levels of the organization.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and managing OHS training for workers: organizing training sessions, managing the training matrix to ensure that all qualifications and certifications are up to date, maintaining and updating the training register.
  • Accompanying and coaching managers to develop their prevention skills.
  • Coaching attendants, initiating the topics of OHS breaks (toolbox meetings), and ensuring that they are carried out at the required frequency and properly documented.
  • Updating and monitoring the progress of the OHS intervention plan.
  • Actively participate in the drafting, updating, and revision of internal OHS policies, ensuring their compliance with current laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate in the investigation and analysis of all accidents or risk situations, identify tendencies and possible causes, propose solutions, and ensure that the necessary corrective and preventive measures are applied.
  • Take charge of the OHS committee: facilitate meetings, follow up on actions decided, and ensure that OHS concerns are addressed effectively.
  • Prepare detailed reports on OHS activities, incidents, and corrective actions, and maintain accurate documentation to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes in OHS matters and follow up on documents produced by the CNESST.
  • Raise awareness and train teams on OHS best practices and procedures.
  • Ensure that all PPE and tools used by workers comply with safety standards, perform regular checks, and update inventories.
  • Follow up on inspections, audits, and other OHS activities in the field, identify potential hazards, and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments and propose corrective measures to prevent injuries.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the general emergency measures plan.

Do you recognize yourself? You’re the ideal candidate if you have:

  • A college diploma in OHS combined with relevant experience in the field.
  • At least five years’ factory experience in a similar OHS role, preferably in an industrial environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of OHS standards, laws, and regulations (LSST, LATMP), the fundamentals of accident prevention, and the regulations governing the construction industry.
  • ASP Construction card (health and safety course on construction sites); an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Office suite.
  • Experience with platforms such as Cognibox (an asset).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Autonomy, rigor, initiative, and proactivity.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and a well-developed sense of urgency and priorities.
  • Demonstrated professional ethics.
  • Comfortable with office and field work (approximate 60/40 split).
  • Availability to travel to different sites and worksites.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to mobilize and inspire teams to adopt safe behaviors.
