Reporting to the Vice President of Legal Affairs, we are seeking a Director, Legal Affairs to contribute to the success of ongoing projects.

Resourceful and passionate about the challenge of building a company, you will play an active role in strategic matters. Your expertise and ability to interact effectively with colleagues and third parties will drive the progress of complex files and facilitate decision-making in line with best practices.

In this role, you will:

  • Oversee the management of legal affairs for the organization, including Canadian and international subsidiaries.
  • Assist business units with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts (e.g., sales, marketing, procurement, IT) while ensuring alignment with company policies and risk management practices.
  • Manage litigation files, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
  • Provide guidance on employment and labour law issues, including recruitment, employment standards, contracts, and terminations.
  • Advise and partner with leadership on legal and strategic issues to support business objectives and growth initiatives.
  • Manage intellectual property portfolios, including patents and trademarks, and provide strategic advice on IP matters.
  • Oversee data protection and compliance programs, ensuring alignment with privacy regulations and best practices.
  • Supervise and mentor a junior lawyer, managing priorities and fostering professional growth within the legal team.
  • Identify legal and business risks for innovative and strategic projects, collaborating cross-functionally to develop solutions that align with business goals.
  • Improve legal processes and tools to enhance efficiency, such as developing collaborative workflows for contract management and updating templates.
  • Champion a proactive and business-oriented approach, demonstrating curiosity, creativity, and rigor to position the legal department as a key strategic partner in the organization’s success.

The ideal profile:

  • You are a lawyer and a member of the Quebec Bar.
  • You have 5 to 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in negotiating and drafting commercial agreements.
  • Excellent communication skills in both French and English (written/verbal). Daily communication outside Quebec.
  • You possess strong analytical and business judgment, demonstrate leadership, and have excellent persuasion and negotiation skills.
  • You are recognized for your business acumen, entrepreneurial mindset, organizational skills, rigor, curiosity and ability to manage priorities.
  • Excellent ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with multidisciplinary functions.
  • Autonomous, resourceful and organized.
  • Ability to identify risks promptly and adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Comfortable working with high levels of pressure and able to make decisions quickly when required.
  • Creative and able to propose legal business solutions that support the company's growth.
  • Be motivated and passionate about excellence, innovation and contributing to the company's growth and success.
