The Role
As the Import/Export Specialist, you will be a key member of the Global Trade Compliance team, responsible for executing day-to-day operational tasks to support business operations. You will work proactively and provide guidance to internal departments to ensure international business activities comply with applicable regulations. Your responsibilities will include assisting business units in integrating trade compliance requirements into their practices and processes, developing necessary policy, and training, and driving projects to enhance global trade operations and mitigate compliance risks. Additionally, you will oversee a record-keeping program ensuring all import and export documentation is properly filed, maintained, and purged. You will also support investigations and due diligence activities, helping to implement corrective actions as required, and function as a point of contact to ensure the efficient and compliant processing of shipments with business, supply chain, and coordination teams.
The Person
You are an experienced import/export specialist with a comprehensive understanding of Canada and US import and export regulations, particularly within the high-tech industry. You have a proven history of working with trade compliance tools, managing screening solutions, and ERP systems. You excel in project management and the implementation of effective processes and procedures. You possess persuasive communication and people skills, allowing you to establish credibility and build rapport with both technical and non-technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute operational tasks for the Global Trade Compliance team to support business operations.
- Provide initiative-taking guidance to internal departments to ensure compliance with Canada and US regulations.
- Assist in integrating trade compliance into business unit practices, including process development and training.
- Develop and oversee projects to improve global trade operations and mitigate risks.
- Manage a comprehensive record-keeping program for all import/export documentation.
- Support compliance investigations and due diligence, implementing necessary corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary contact for efficient and compliant Canadian shipment processing across various teams.
- Ensure compliance with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), or other applicable customs authorities.
- Maintain the Company's compliance with the PIP/C-TPAT program.
- Stay up-to-date with tariff codes, Harmonized System (HS) classifications, and duties/tax changes.
- Strong background in Canada and US import and export regulations, especially in the high-tech sector.
- Experience with trade compliance tools, screening solutions, and ERP systems.
- Proven capability in project management and process improvement.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Additional certifications in trade compliance or international trade are preferred.
