Assistant Professor – Sociocultural Studies of Physical Activity and HealthAbout the PositionThe Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment as an Assistant Professor in the sociocultural studies of physical activity and health. The University uses the term Indigenous in this search to encompass the people of Turtle Island, including those who identify as First Nations, Métis, Inuk, Alaska Native, Native American, and Native Hawaiian people.Eligibility and QualificationsPh.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a relevant social science field (e.g., sociology, health studies, cultural studies, environmental studies, gender studies, critical race studies, Indigenous studies, queer studies, critical disability studies, media studies, policy studies) by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter.Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.Experience or training in intersectional anti‑oppression approaches is considered a strong asset.Research ExpectationsDevelop an innovative, independent, and externally funded research programme in the sociocultural studies of physical activity and health.Demonstrate research productivity through publications in top‑ranked and field‑relevant journals, conference presentations, grant awards, and other forms of scholarly recognition.Submit a research statement and secure strong referee endorsements of research excellence.Teaching ResponsibilitiesContribute to undergraduate and graduate program teaching and student mentorship.Develop and deliver courses, seminars, and laboratories related to the area of expertise.Provide guidance for student research projects and conference presentations.Maintain a teaching dossier that includes a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, evaluation data, and endorsements of teaching excellence.Service ExpectationsEngage in faculty‑related committees and community outreach as required.Selection ProcessThe selection process will be based on scholarship, research seminars, interviews, and meetings with faculty and students.SalarySalary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.About the FacultyThe Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto is composed of more than 35 faculty members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds who are dedicated to advancing knowledge about physical activity, health, and their interactions through education, research, leadership, and community engagement.
