Position Overview

The John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Architectural Design. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Responsibilities

We seek candidates who can demonstrate a strong commitment to engaging in a combination of creative design practice and research focusing on the relationship between architectural design and innovations in the use of sustainable materials. The successful candidate should demonstrate an ability to develop a synthesis between creative design and material innovations.

Candidates must have earned a Master’s degree in Architecture (M.Arch) with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and/or creative professional activity, and teaching as appropriate for their stage of career.

Qualifications

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research and/or creative professional activity which can be demonstrated by:

  • the submitted research statement,
  • a record of publications in recognized and field relevant journals,
  • authored or edited books and book chapters,
  • exhibitions in recognized venues,
  • participation in research projects,
  • presentations at academic conferences,
  • awards and accolades,
  • strong endorsements by referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, as well as strong recommendation letters. Other teaching-related activities can include:

  • Publications in recognized pedagogy journals,
  • Performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor,
  • Examples of student work,
  • Experience in leading successful workshops or seminars,
  • Student mentorship demonstrated in publications authored by students under the candidate’s supervision.
Application Process

Applicants must submit a cover letter; a current curriculum vitae; a research statement outlining current and future research and/or creative professional activities; representative examples of publications, research, and design work; and a teaching dossier.

Applicants must provide the name and contact information of three references. The University of Toronto’s recruiting tool will automatically solicit and collect letters of reference from each referee the day after an application is submitted.

All application materials, including recent reference letters, must be received by January 13, 2025.
