Role Overview CBC North is looking for an experienced journalist with exceptional editing and critical thinking skills to join our digital team as a senior writer based in Yellowknife for six months starting in January 2026. Reporting to our senior digital producer, the successful candidate will ensure the accurate and efficient delivery of content to CBC North’s website. You will write and edit copy, craft sharp headlines that engage our readers and package multimedia content to enrich the audience experience. Responsibilities Take the lead on breaking news, in collaboration with the senior digital producer. Write stories from reporters’ material and Current Affairs interviews as needed. Vet, copy edit, fact check, package and publish stories, working with writers to make sure our digital stories meet high editorial standards. Provide feedback to reporters. Curate the news lineup as needed. Monitor news developments to ensure our stories of the day are up to date. Write compelling headlines that drive audience interest and engagement. Chase interviews and write original stories as needed. Address typo reports, and handle corrections and clarifications in consultation with the senior digital producer. Qualifications A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience working in a fast‑paced, daily multi‑platform news environment. Strong journalistic and critical thinking skills, including knowledge of and familiarity with CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism. Ability to manage and organize large volumes of fast‑moving information. Experience in copy editing content for digital platforms, including fact‑checking, legal vetting and packaging. Superior knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Knowledge of CBC style is an asset. Superior communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. A strong proven connection or understanding of the communities we serve in the North, and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required. Possession of a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio‑Canada’s insurance company. University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of five years of journalism experience. The ability to speak a northern Indigenous language would be considered a major asset.
