Cedar Heights is looking for caring, enthusiastic, energetic, and professional individual to work with children, adolescents, and adults within our home located in Stayner. Cedar Heights offers a dynamic workplace in a rapidly growing organization.
Cedar Heights specializes in working with complex care clients diagnosed with neuro diversions such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Direct Support Professionals provide individuals with high levels of support and supervision in all areas of daily living including; education, behaviour support, community involvement, and recreation.
The position requires that the candidate be available to work various shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
On-site/Off-site training is provided. Also made available to all employees are opportunities to participate in various workshops to further develop skills and knowledge on how to better support our clients.

Qualifications or Skills Required:
- Related experience working with special needs individuals; previous supervisory experience. Time spent working in a group home setting with people with neurodiversity would be considered an asset.
- The Program Supervisor at Cedar Heights is required to hold a Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in social services and/or a related field.
- The Program Supervisor position also entails upholding a position as a Direct Support Professional which requires open availability including weekend shifts where required.

Program Supervisor
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:The Program Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations when the Program Manager is not available. Responsibilities include administrative, programming, supervision, financial, and program development, implementation, coordination, and modification.
Requirements and Qualifications:The Program Supervisor at Cedar Heights Residential Living is required to hold a Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in the social service and/or related field. Related experience working with special needs individuals is also required. Upon hiring, Cedar Heights requires access to the documentation that is outlined in the Direct Support Professional job description. The Program Supervisors must have open availability.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:The Program Supervisor must follow all the health and safety responsibilities set out in the Direct Support Professional job description. In addition to those responsibilities the Program Supervisor has the following responsibilities:
- Ensure that the cleaning supplies used match the SDS binder
- Ensure that the MCCSS and QAM standards are being followed
- Ensure that the Fire Safety Plan is updated when necessary
- Contact the necessary contractors for any maintenance needs
- Ensure that the annual inspections are completed
- Follow through with any concerns that were brought forward by the JHSC (where applicable)
- Ensure that all staff are trained in medication and pharmacology
- Ensure that the medication binder and the medical profiles on the case management system are updated with all changes
- Ensure that the medication intake and adherence checks to monitor expired medication are completed
Communication Responsibilities:The Program Supervisor must follow all the communication responsibilities set out in the Direct Support Professional job description. The Program Supervisor also has the following additional responsibilities:
- Record all important information in the communication book and ensure that staff are reading and signing off on every shift.
- Provide team support by working as an effective supervisory member of the On-Call System
- Reinforce and abide by all Emergency Procedures (i.e., Fire, Police, AWOL, Suicide, etc.)
- Complete the full staff orientation following the orientation manual and checklist
- Ensure that all staff understand the organization’s Policies & Procedures
- Assist in staff discipline - following the disciplinary process
- Student Placement supervisor - Oversee placement students, and conduct weekly meetings with students to go over their skills assessments.
- Complete Student Evaluations and attend meetings with College faculty
- Report staff discrepancies to the Program Manager and collaborate on solutions
- Facilitate meetings when the Program Manager is unable to attend
- Co-chair staff meetings and in-service training sessions
Administrative Responsibilities:Follow all the administrative responsibilities outlined in the Direct Support Professional job description. In addition, the Program Supervisor has the following responsibilities:
- Assume the Program Manager’s responsibilities if the Program Manager is away
- Work as a team leader for all employees to ensure program stability
- Attend Psychiatrist meetings in the Program Manager’s absence
- Check 1:1 signing sheets and ensure they are signed
- Complete the invoices and expense spreadsheets when the Program Manager is away
- Check staff timesheets against the schedule and staff on shift list to ensure accuracy
- Complete the biweekly payroll summary and submit it to the Program Manager
- Collaborate with the Program Manager on the schedule
- Schedule interviews and co-interview potential staff
- Ensure staff hiring packages are complete and up to date
- Check references of potential new staff upon hiring
- File and quality control of residents’ binders – present and discharged
- Any additional administrative duties assigned by the Program Manager
- Ensure all MCCSS and QAM documents are reviewed by staff and residents annually
- Ensure that all QSF requirements are being met
- Assist residents with ODSP and Passport applications
- Reinforce and abide by the Policy and Procedures Manual
- Administer, and ensure the accurate recording and administration of medication (prescription and non-prescription)
- Audit of assigned staff duties
- Review residents’ POC’s, ISP’s, BSP’s, and Safety plans prior to submission
- Review the shift logs to ensure completion
- Be familiar with resident profiles, goals, needs, and behaviors, and the corresponding intervention strategies
- Advocate and support residents with regard to their knowledge and expression of rights and responsibilities, and cultural and religious backgrounds.
- Accompany residents to medical appointments, court, assessments, and other appointments.
Development/Coordination:
- Ensure the program is consistent with the standards set out by MCCSS and QAM
- Ensure that the program is consistent with the resident's individual needs, ZPD, and goals
- Review individual programming and make modifications when needed
- Ensure that the goals that are set out in the ISP, BSP, and POCs are being implemented and modified when necessary
- Ensure accuracy and collaborate on reviews of Safety plans
- Review treatment goals
Staff Support Responsibilities:
- Mentor Staff in the CARE principles
- Participate in weekly meetings and consultations with the Program Manager
- Facilitate regular meetings with all Case Managers and on-call staff
- Mentor and coach new staff
- Hold supervision meetings with staff
- Mediate conflicts among staff
- Oversee and ensure employees support residents in all areas of physical and health needs, nutrition, diet, and personal hygiene
Case Management:The Program Supervisor could be assigned as a case manager to a specific individual.
Miscellaneous:The Duties and Responsibilities of the Program Supervisor may be changed from time to time and the Program Supervisor may be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or the Directors.
Direct Support Professional
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional provides on-site support, structure, and supervision using a strength-based approach for residents with brain-based disabilities such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). At times staff will need to use physical intervention techniques such as holding skills (physical restraints) for the safety of those involved. Staff make accommodations within the environment and programming focusing on the residents’ functional age rather than their biological age to provide the best opportunity for personal growth. Staff provides an inclusive approach and assistance in treatment including participation in life skills training (hygiene, toileting, chores), arts & crafts, recreation, and leisure, as well as behavior intervention programs aimed at increasing skill acquisition. Community integration is also a focus of the program.
Requirements and Qualifications:Direct Support Professionals at Cedar Heights are required to be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, overnights, and weekends as well as holidays.
Direct Support Professionals at Cedar Heights are required to possess a post-secondary degree or diploma (completed or in progress with at least 50% completed) in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Disability Support Worker, or other related fields. Related experience with individuals with special needs, children, or practicum placement is encouraged, but not required if related education is complete.
Upon hiring, Cedar Heights requires employees to have the following:
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector (current within 6 months)
- Completed Employee Medical Test with Hep B, and 2-part TB test
- Proof of Immunization record
- Consent to CAS SAFE records check
- Evidence of $1,000,000 Liability Automobile Insurance
- Minimum of 2 Professional References
- Valid G Driver's License
- Access to a vehicle at work
- Valid First Aid/ CPR- Level C
Once employed staff will be trained in NVPCI, Meds and Pharmacology, FASD, ASD, CARE, Trauma, Documentation, and the Cedar Heights Online (HDA) record system
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Be aware of, and respond appropriately to dangers
- Report all accidents, unusual conditions, and injuries immediately in writing
- Correct all possible hazards before they happen
- Report any defects in appliances, wiring, heating, railings, structure, or other safety concerns immediately in writing
- Keep workplace orderly
- Participate in monthly fire drills
- Attend annual fire training
- Focus primarily on the medical, health, and safety of the residents
- Support residents in all areas of physical/health needs (i.e., personal hygiene, nutrition and diet)
- Have a working knowledge of the location of fire and safety procedures as well as basic knowledge of first aid and be able to implement as needed.
- Complete regular household expectations (i.e., cooking, cleaning, laundry, basic repairs, etc.)
- Understanding of Duty to Report
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of all Emergency Procedures (i.e., Fire, Emergency, Police, AWOL, Suicide, Restraints, Power Outage, etc.)
- Ensure all necessary supplies are on hand and refilled as needed
- Utilize physical intervention skills taught and assessed in Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention training to ensure the care, welfare, safety, and security of all involved.
Communication Responsibilities:
- Record daily activities and other relevant information in the Communication Binder and the Resident’s Daily Logs
- Read the Communication Binder at the beginning of each shift and follow through with tasks and activities as indicated
- Attend all scheduled meetings and all mandatory in-service training sessions
- Communicate any problems with the building, equipment, and grounds to all staff
- Documented debriefing within 24 hours after serious occurrences, with all residents and staff involved
- Demonstrate respect and courtesy to residents, staff, and visitors
- Read each resident’s file within two weeks of employment; understand information and history of each individual resident
- Support all coworkers and follow the conflict resolution protocol if any conflicts arise
Support Responsibilities:
- Become familiar with individual client profiles, behavioral plans, and each resident’s individual programming
- Support residents in increasing their ability to understand and express wants and needs, communication skills, reading, and writing.
- Support each resident with an understanding of their individual needs, goals, and programming
- Utilize each resident’s individual behavior intervention strategies when challenging behaviors present
- Support clients in all areas of physical and health needs, nutrition, diet, and personal hygiene
- Support clients with an awareness of their rights, responsibilities, cultural and religious backgrounds
- Capability to provide physical support as required for hygiene (i.e. helping in and out of the bathtub) and crisis intervention (including but not limited to, physical intervention techniques taught in NVPCI training, etc)
Administrative Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team with all staff members to ensure program stability
- Become familiar with and abide by the Policy and Procedures Manual (i.e., Policies, Procedures, Code of Conduct, etc.)
- Complete necessary documentation prior to leaving your shift (i.e., Serious Occurrence Reports, Incident Reports, Case notes, Accident, Injury Reports, House Checklists, Scatter Plots, Incentive Plans, Debriefing Forms, 1:1 Logs, etc.)
- Complete all resident programming, data collection, and documentation related to each resident’s behavioral programming
- Clock in and out for all shifts using Blip
- Requests for time off are required at least two weeks in advance through Bright HR
- Follow call-in protocol for any unforeseen absences or last-minute emergencies
