Position: Buyer
Location: Kapuskasing, ON – Papermill  Kap Paper Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Buyer to join our purchasing team at our paper mill. The Buyer will be responsible for managing the procurement of raw materials, machinery, and supplies needed to support production operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in supply chain management, vendor relations, and the paper manufacturing industry.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or equivalent experience. 
  • CPM, CPP or other relevant certifications would be considered an asset. 
  • 5 years experience in industrial purchasing, and supply chain management.
  • Experience with vendor management and negotiation.
  • Familiarity with procurement software and Microsoft office.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Source suppliers of products and/or services and perform effective analysis to ensure supplier’s meet or exceed internal expectations and requirements for day-to-day activities and capital projects as per assigned commodities.
  • Support corporate purchasing activities by recommending the consolidation and standardization of common products and services to increase leverage and maximize savings.
  • Review and analyze supplier proposals and make selection recommendations to end user. 
  • Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions, site contracts in an effective manner.
  • Promote good vendor relations.
  • Review all purchasing request to ensure consistency with corporate policy and guidelines.
  • Expedite all overdue purchase orders on a regular basis.
  • Communicates supplier or product changes to Stores Supervisor for updating inventory information.
  • Coordinate transportation and associated documentation for shipping and customs. 
  • Ensure that all products and/or services comply with QMS (ISO 9002), EMS (ISO 14001) & OHSAS (18001).
  • Facilitate the sourcing of site materials and services by communicating business needs to vendors or service providers and identifying and clarifying vendor issues for site Managers and Superintendents. 
  • Keep up to date with new products, equipment, and suppliers to recommend improvements in the quality, terms, delivery schedules of materials and services purchased.
  • Report monthly progress on specific objectives.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethics and treat suppliers & contractors equitably in connection with sourcing, solicitation, award processes and decisions.
  • Recommend improvements to purchasing systems, methods, or policies to Manager Purchasing & Corporate Purchasing Manager. 
  • Identify and select suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery time, while meeting the company’s needs.
  • Issue purchase orders, track orders, and ensure that all goods and services are delivered according to specifications and timelines.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with existing suppliers while sourcing new suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
  • Work with the inventory or warehouse team to maintain accurate records of stock levels and usage.
  • Assist with inventory audits and reconciliation, ensuring all purchases and stock movements are properly documented.
  • Conduct research to find cost-saving opportunities and identify potential suppliers that offer better terms or higher-quality products.
  • Work closely with internal departments (e.g., Operations, Production, Sales) to understand material and product needs and ensure timely fulfillment.
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to coordinate shipping and receiving of goods and services.
  • Provide regular updates to management on purchasing activities and inventory status.
