About the Philanthropy and Major Gifts Director:

Reporting to the CEO, the Philanthropy and Major Gifts Director is a key member of the Habitat for Humanity Niagara team. As an experienced fundraising professional, the role is responsible for leading, implementing, and executing several fund development plans/programs to help the organization reach its strategic goals. This role creates, manages, and maintains a portfolio that focuses on major gift acquisitions and manages fund development initiatives to exceed revenue targets. This role will work as part of a team in advancing the work of Habitat Niagara by fostering strong relationships with donors, and generating philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

As the Philanthropy and Major Gifts Director you will be responsible for:

Major Gifts Donor Cultivations and Stewardship (60%)

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive resource and fundraising strategies to support Habitat for Humanity Niagara's mission and programs.
  2. Collaborate with the CEO to develop the strategy, management, and delivery of all major gift efforts to acquire new partners, engage in high-level stewardship of existing partners, and enhance fundraising sponsorship.
  3. Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, foundations, corporations, and other potential funding sources to secure significant financial support.
  4. Steward and report on major gifts portfolio.
  5. Oversee and manage the organization’s stewardship program while providing strategic direction and mentorship to the Fund Development Officer.
  6. Manage and maintain accurate donor records and ensure timely acknowledgment and recognition of donations.
  7. Ensure philanthropy and major gift tasks are completed on time, stakeholders are consulted, and initiatives are executed to a high level of excellence within or below their approved budgets.
  8. Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders including suppliers, sponsors, partners, and other supporters.
  9. Review fundraising initiative briefs and provide input regarding recommendations and evaluation for future fundraising initiative success.
  10. Attend community events, third-party fundraising events, and cheque presentations, as required.

Collaboration, Planning and Leadership (40%)

  1. Collaborate with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Fund Development Officer to set fundraising goals and objectives and develop strategies to achieve them.
  2. Develop and manage philanthropy and major gift related budgets with revenue and expense projections, with the approval of the CEO.
  3. Maintain philanthropy and major gifts quality improvement plan (QIP) capturing relevant key performance indicators (KPI). Reviews plan/metrics with CEO, Fund Development Officer and/or philanthropy and major gifts committee.
  4. Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and objectives.
  5. Provide leadership and strategic guidance to the Fund Development Officer, supporting their professional development and performance.
  6. Represent Habitat for Humanity Niagara at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities to enhance the organization's visibility and reputation.
  7. Collaborate with other departments, including marketing and communications and volunteer services, to integrate fundraising efforts and maximize impact including digital advertising, promotions, fundraising resources, and other marketing collateral.
  8. Contribute as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

The successful candidate will have:

  1. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills and the ability to cultivate relationships with and communicate effectively with all donors, partners, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  2. Superior oral, written and persuasive communication skills with the ability to demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in developing solicitation strategies.
  3. Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
  4. Able to handle confidential information and attend to a great amount of detail.
  5. Act as an ambassador throughout the community, positively representing Habitat for Humanity Niagara.
  6. Self-starter, high energy, and strong independent work ethic.
  7. Ability to manage relationships and motivate others to accomplish specific tasks.
  8. Accuracy and attention to detail is imperative.
  9. Ability to communicate in a professional manner with donors, staff members, volunteers and our community.
  10. Ability to oversee projects from beginning to completion with high attention to detail.
  11. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and implement practices supportive of diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications:

  1. 5-10 years experience in progressive fundraising with demonstrated success, in the non-profit/charitable sector.
  2. CFRE, and/or relevant post-secondary qualifications.
  3. Post-graduate certificate in fundraising, non-profit management, leadership, or related field an asset. Current AFP member ideal.
  4. Experience with major gifts above $10k level and stewardship of accounts.
  5. Experience developing an annual plan to support the strategic revenue target.
  6. Intermediate to Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  7. Experience and knowledge of donor database systems and fundraising software, specifically, Raiser’s Edge.
  8. Familiarity with the Niagara Region and its philanthropic landscape is an asset.
