A career coach is an employment training assistant who works with students who require a high level of support for their learning, also known as having special educational needs. The career coach helps these students develop the skills and competencies needed to prepare them for the workplace.


Main Accountabilities

  • Accompany students to work placements, observe their performance, and provide feedback and instruction
  • Plan, develop, and implement strategies to build students' independent work skills
  • Support students in developing and improving their communication and social skills
  • Prepare students for the workplace through pre-requisite skills training
  • Advocate between site personnel and students to maintain open communication and achieve workplace learning plans and employment objectives
  • Support students in making personal choices by providing tailored information
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other members of the student's educational team
  • Design and implement vocational programmess focused on relevant skills and knowledge
  • Gather and maintain records and data for targeted students
  • Participate in team meetings and training
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Career Development Manager/Coordinator or Head of Education - Student Support


Requirements

  • Holder of university degree or equivalent academic qualifications
  • Experience working with secondary-aged students who require a high level of support and assistance 
  • Experience in the field of education, special education, social work, community service or educational outreach 
  • Strong proficiency in spoken and written English; competency in Cantonese would be beneficial
  • Cheerful, calm, and optimistic attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and flexibility to adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to work well under pressure, keen attention to detail, and effective conflict management skills
  • Proactive and resourceful approach to work
