OCNI is an association of more than 200 Canadian suppliers to the nuclear industry. OCNI is the leading voice of the Canadian nuclear supply chain and actively promotes the production of safe, clean, and reliable nuclear base load electricity as a central part of Canada’s balanced electricity generation portfolio. OCNI plays a critical role in supporting the industry to develop capacity and to enable members to access emerging opportunities.
Position Overview
Guided by the organization’s mission, vision, and strategies, the President & CEO is responsible for all operations of OCNI. This includes providing services and support to utility and national lab partners and members, membership retention and growth, facilities management, financial administration, outreach, and relationship building with community and political leaders, and interfacing with the OCNI Board of Directors.
The CEO is also responsible for leading OCNI’s team in a positive, creative, and efficient work environment that rewards excellence. This includes regular staff meetings, staff evaluation, training, professional development, and succession planning. Additionally, the President & CEO is responsible for budgeting and forecasting processes, achieving the objectives of the Board, executing Board directives, attending Board meetings, and reporting to the Board on financials, enabling strategic direction, OCNI events, and overall performance of the organization.

RequirementsResponsibilities
Operational
- Support the long-term financial health of OCNI while maintaining a viable service to existing members and offering an attractive option to potential new members.
- Enable delivery of programs and services for the organization.
- Develop strong relationships with members, focusing on membership engagement, retention, and attraction.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable laws, by-laws, statutes, and government regulations.
- Report to the Board on staff performance issues and HR matters as required.
- Provide oversight on the Reconciliation Action Plan for the organization.
- Comply with organizational governance, and be familiar with OCNI’s bylaws, policies, and procedures.
- Execute Board directives within the context of identified policies and procedures, and strategy.
External Relations
- Maintain liaison with members, understanding their needs and supporting their success.
- Maintain liaison with industry partners and participants.
- Maintain liaison with provincial and federal government departments.
- Develop positive mutually beneficial relationships with members and other interested parties.
Communications
- This is an external-facing role where a visible presence at industry events is critical.
- Act as a public/media spokesperson for OCNI on public policy positions approved by the Board.
- Foster media interaction, by submitting articles for newspapers and magazines, conducting interviews, as required.
- Arrange and lead industry seminars, trade missions, and supplier's days.
- Arrange for OCNI presence at relevant functions such as conferences and trade shows.
Qualifications
- A post-secondary degree/diploma in a relevant field or equivalent.
- 10 years of experience leading a team, hiring, and developing staff, creating and managing budgets.
- Dynamic leadership and ability to lead & motivate a small dynamic team.
- Demonstrated ability to create a positive, creative, and efficient work environment.
- Ability to manage numerous projects, prioritize objectives, and meet deadlines.
Experience
- Extensive Canadian experience, ideally in the nuclear or energy sector.
- Recognized industry leader who can earn the respect of other key industry CEOs.
- Collaborator who can work well with sister associations.
- Understanding of Board Governance.
- Ability to develop and maintain a strong CEO-Chair relationship.
- Strong understanding of provincial and federal government roles in the nuclear industry.
- Ability to communicate effectively about nuclear energy to domestic and offshore audiences.
- Effective networker with established networks in relevant organizations.
