Job Overview:

Director of Operations is responsible for the management of multiple facets of the operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this role ensures the link between the various departments and site operations is seamless and that all aspects of the day-to-day operations and long-term plans are being undertaken efficiently and cost-effectively. The successful candidate will develop and implement operational-related processes and procedures while providing guidance and mentorship to staff where required.

Work Schedule and Environment:

  • Full time
  • Working partially in an office setting located in Lively, ON, and partially on-site (approximately 3 days a week), depending on project demands. Additional on-site presence may be required in the event of critical issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Take a leadership role in company activities, overseeing and coordinating with senior management to achieve goals and KPIs.
  • Ensure administrative, finance, and operational activities are conducted within business parameters.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to enhance efficiency across the business.
  • Act as the primary lead for contract management functions.
  • Track and invoice all costs accurately.
  • Oversee project and operational reporting processes, taking ownership of both internal and external reporting.
  • Review and interpret drawings and specifications, demonstrating a clear understanding of work sequencing and construction activities.
  • Assist in short and long-term planning, monitoring, and coordination efforts.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management.
  • Ensure site compliance with company policies, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead estimating and risk management activities as required.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training support to team members.
  • Collaborate with HR on recruitment activities, employee performance monitoring, training needs identification, and completion of required training.
  • Mediate employee relations issues and manage disciplinary actions, involving HR when necessary.
  • Coordinate with the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team to maintain a safe work environment and promote safety awareness.
  • Align change management processes with established practices.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of project scope, task sequencing, milestones, risks, and critical paths.
  • Address client requests and inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Assist in implementing and utilizing ERP systems effectively.
  • Supervise and manage team members efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Technical, or an Engineering-related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience in the operational and/or maintenance mining sector.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management and contract management roles.
  • Prior exposure to construction, budgets, scheduling, monitoring/reporting, estimating, people management, ERP systems, and accounting principles.
  • Understanding of the project lifecycle from RFP through to closeout.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations for mining plants.
  • Highly dependable, patient, calm, and professional.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent English communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
