J.D. Irving, Limited is currently seeking a Site Manager for the Irving Nature Park in Saint John, NB for the upcoming operating season.

The Irving Nature Park is a 600-acre site created and maintained by J.D. Irving, Limited, and a favorite for over 300,000 visitors a year. It was created to help protect an environmentally significant area, and you can enjoy the rugged beauty, boardwalks, walking trails, lookout points and more. Some of the features you can find here are: 11km of rugged Bay of Fundy coastline, eight walking trails of varying lengths, a boardwalk that extends into the salt marsh, and interactive educational programs and activities. Not only does the Park boast numerous recreational opportunities, but it falls within the Stonehammer UNESCO World Geological Site, which is spread out over 2,500 square kilometers in southern New Brunswick and is North America’s first GeoPark.

About the Role:

As the Leader for the Park Team, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and oversee projects and other park employees, all while calling this unique coastal park your office A Site Manager’s duties have a heavy emphasis on community and company engagement, and your tasks will range from resource and employee management, Park maintenance, stakeholder collaboration, and more We are looking for a Site Manager who:

  1. Loves the outdoors
  2. Maintains a high standard of care and ensures the best possible user experience
  3. Coaches staff on public relations and customer service
  4. Leads and inspires a team to meet or exceed maintenance objectives that uphold company values and standards
  5. Maintains and creates new partnerships with community stakeholders, including local nature and recreation groups and organizations
  6. Works with the park interpreter to develop engaging outdoor education and program opportunities to serve local schools and members of the general public
  7. Is creative in using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) to connect with the community and share the wide range of conservation values of the park and J.D. Irving, Limited
  8. Looks to improve Park operations in ways that align with company standards and community needs
  9. Actively engages with Park users to gather feedback and identify ways to improve the park and community relations
  10. Ensures safety, training, and quality standards are met
  11. Creates staff schedules
  12. Balances multiple tasks and priorities as needed

Qualifications:

  1. A strong desire to lead, motivate, and supervise a team
  2. Committed to top performance in a safe work environment
  3. Knowledge relating to local flora and fauna are considered an asset, though not required
  4. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks at times
  5. Excellent oral communication skills in corporate and casual settings
  6. Flexible and available to work on a rotating schedule, including evenings and weekends
  7. Motivated to work with minimal supervision
  8. Experience with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  9. Ability to create engaging social media content that upholds company values
  10. Valid driver’s license
  11. Ability to communicate strategically with staff, community, senior managers, and executives
  12. 3-5 years supervisory experience considered an asset
  13. A related post-secondary education in Hospitality/Tourism, Forestry, Environmental Management, Biology, or equivalent considered an asset

This is a full-time, year-round term employment, with the candidate managing the Park from April to November. In coordination between the Irving Nature Park and J.D. Irving, Ltd. Woodlands Division, at the end of the Park’s season the candidate will transfer to forest operations or projects and assignments as determined by the Director of Partnerships and Engagement.
