Director, investor relations

The Investor Relations (IR) team is primarily responsible for ongoing communication with the investment community including existing and prospective institutional shareholders, as well as sell side equity research analysts. The team’s mandate also includes providing market intelligence to internal stakeholders.
The incumbent is an integral part of the IR team, and is responsible for providing key analytical and marketing support to the IR strategy and program. The incumbent will be involved with all IR activities including quarter end reporting and investor relations marketing events. In addition, the role is responsible for preparation of several regular management reports and for developing and maintaining the tools and processes necessary to support an effective IR function.
Position Responsibilities:- Lead certain aspects of the quarter-end process including: identify earnings call questions, draft press releases, develop slides, summarize sentiment, analyze peers' performance, and prepare other quarterly deliverables.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including business segment experts, finance and actuarial professionals, senior and executive management, sell-side analysts, and institutional investors.
- Develop processes and procedures for an effective IR program, automating and leveraging data tools like NASDAQ IRI, Bloomberg, and Capital IQ to respond to ad hoc requests.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to junior IR team members, including assignment and review of work.
- Support the planning and implementation of a comprehensive IR marketing and shareholder engagement plan, including identifying investor targets, scheduling, planning events, ensuring appropriate messaging, and preparing materials for IR events, which may require travel.
- Participate in ad hoc projects, manage the investment community’s expectations, and stay updated on corporate disclosure policies for quarterly and annual reports.
- Degree in finance/accounting/actuarial.
- 5-10 years of related work experience.
- Solid understanding of financial and capital markets.
- Solid analytical capability; financial modeling experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Superior Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment; prioritizing tasks to meet client demands & changing market conditions.
- Strong interpersonal and well-developed relationship management skills.
- Must be able to exercise judgment in communication of results/events to outsiders; no margin for error in disclosure of information to outsiders.
- Ability to work tight deadlines - priorities can change intraday.
- CA, CFA, FSA or MBA is desirable.
- Past Equity Research, Investment Banking or Institutional Sales experience is an asset.
- Solid understanding of the insurance business and/or Manulife’s products and distribution strategies is desirable.
- Marketing/communications experience, particularly related to IR would be an asset.

Salary Range: $103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD
