Facility Attendant

The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a motivated individual to fill the position of Facility Attendant, in the Community & Recreation Services Department.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager Facilities & Energy Management, the Facility Attendant will perform a variety of duties relating to the maintenance and upkeep of the Community Facilities (ie: arena, pool, community centre, etc.) including ice maintenance, flooding, refrigeration plant operation, record keeping, Zamboni operation, general building and pool repair and operation, special event set up and take down and custodial duties, with a focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement processes.

Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must have successfully completed Grade 12 with preference to candidates with a post-secondary diploma in Recreation Management or Facility Maintenance including Turf Management and/or Horticulture field. Candidates must have minimum two (2) years experience in arena refrigeration process, pool operations and ice/facility maintenance and possess a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License, in good standing. Qualified candidates must hold current First Aid and CPR, Defibrillator, AODA and WHMIS certification. Effective customer service and communication skills, in addition to strong problem solving and time management skills are also required. Candidates must have knowledge and experience relating to the operations and maintenance of artificial ice plants and pool operating filtration and an understanding of HVAC systems. Must also have knowledge of provincial legislation pertaining to the operation of facilities e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, TSSA, Public Pools and experience in ensuring compliance with applicable standards;

The following qualifications will be considered an asset:
  • Certified Ice Technician designation with ORFA and the Certified Pool Operator, or equivalent;
  • Basic Refrigeration Certificate;
  • Previous experience in arena, refrigeration process, and pool building operations;
  • Certification in propane handling;
  • Previous experience as an ice resurfacer operator; and
  • Hard working, self-motivator able to work with minimal supervision, and experience in the use of hand and power tools, regular vehicle and equipment checks, building maintenance and janitorial duties.

Applicants must be able to work shifts as required including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The normal hours of work shall be forty (40) hours per week, on the basis of either four (4) days of ten (10) hours each or five (5) days of eight (8) hours each, between the hours of 6:00 am and 1:00 am, inclusive of thirty (30) minutes paid break as scheduled by the Manager or five (5) days of eight (8) hours each between the hours of 6:00 am and 1:00 am.

Salary
The Town offers a starting hourly rate of $32.21 (2024), in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 702.1. This position is subject to a probationary period of sixty (60) days of work.
