Exciting Opportunity for a Technical Sales Representative Based in Southwestern Ontario

Our client, a Montreal-based privately owned manufacturing company, is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Technical Sales Representative to join their growing sales team. With >150 team members internationally, our client offers their customers the ability to outsource manufacturing of high-quality custom parts and assemblies at very competitive prices. They manufacture these custom metal parts and assemblies for equipment manufacturers in the following industries - agricultural, transportation (trucks and trailers), heavy equipment (i.e. mining, snow removal, construction), forestry, material handling (forklifts, scissor lifts etc.), robotics, and automation.

They are well on their way to achieving their 4-year objective of doubling revenue, a strategy that includes market share growth in North America and Europe and continued diversification of their customer base. About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new B2B manufacturing customer relationships and winning new business within the Southwestern Ontario region. In addition, they will be encouraged to target and grow business with US based customers. Reporting to the Director of Sales and Marketing (who is based in Montreal), the candidate will enjoy a high degree of autonomy and trust in their day-to-day activities aimed at delivering on-target performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Development: Identify, qualify, and prioritize potential customers through various channels such as Google, LinkedIn, industry associations, Chambers of Commerce, cold-calling, networking, and trade shows.
  • Prospecting: Send introductory emails, make prospecting calls, and generate appointments – to be successful you must enjoy hunting down and closing new business.
  • Presentations: Conduct initial visits with potential clients, presenting your offering to customer contacts in the target industries such as Purchasing Managers, Operations Managers, or General Management.
  • Needs Assessment: Understand customer needs for custom metal parts, collecting samples and specifications for engineering colleagues to evaluate and produce quotations.
  • Quoting & Orders: Present quotes to customers and secure purchase orders – with the technical knowledge of engineers to support.
  • Account Management: Maintain regular visits with acquired customers to defend existing business and generate additional business – organic growth.
  • Time Management: Organize your schedule, appointments, calls, reminders, and contact files efficiently.
  • Collaboration: Maintain healthy communication with the company management team and other internal stakeholders, provide weekly activity reports, utilize the company CRM, and provide excellent customer experience through all stages of sales cycle.
  • Sales Strategy and Goal Attainment: Develop and propose sales strategies to meet or exceed your sales targets.
  • Customer Service: Ensure professional service before and after sales to maintain customer satisfaction and position the company for future growth.

Required Skills:

  • Experience: Multiple years of demonstrated success in B2B sales with manufacturing, machinery, equipment, or metal products companies.
  • Technical Aptitude: Knowledge or interest in engineering, the ability to read 3D drawings, and a curiosity for metals and metallurgical processes.
  • Professional Sales Skills: Excellent presentation, persuasion, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Customer Focus: Strong orientation towards understanding and solving customer needs.
  • Autonomy: Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to manage activities independently.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in common IT tools (Office, CRM, Google, LinkedIn).
  • Reputation-Conscious: Awareness of personal and company reputation.
  • Initiative: Energetic, passionate, and proactive.
  • Travel and Transportation: Valid driver's license, and access to use own vehicle for business purposes (expense reimbursement program exists). Willingness to travel overnight (3-4 nights per month) – otherwise all travel would be local.
