Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational independent school, serving over 750 students from preschool through to Grade 12. Job Description:

As part of our commitment to implementing our strategic plan, CFIS is recruiting an assistant principal for the ECE division. This is a unique position, supporting a division that includes classrooms licensed under Alberta Childcare Licensing, and Kindergarten classrooms accredited under Alberta Education. CFIS’ ECE division is the primary entry point for student enrolment at our school and is fully integrated into our larger school community.

The responsibilities of this position cover the following areas:

  • Assist the Principal in managing the day-to-day organization and operation of CFIS’s ECE Division.
  • Support the IB PYP Coordinator in providing instructional leadership to the ECE division in regard to the IB Early Years Programme.
  • Serve as a liaison and direct report to ECE specialist teachers to enhance and align programming for fine arts and physical education.
  • Collaborate with the ECE Leadership team to research, plan, and organize professional development opportunities that meet the needs of the ECE division.
  • Act as on-site safety officer for field trips and other off-site activities for the ECE division.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director, Admissions to schedule and conduct admissions assessments for applicants to Preschool, JK, Kindergarten, and Grade One.
  • Assist the Principal in working with teachers to maintain effective classroom procedures and practices through coaching, feedback, discussion, and observation.
  • Build and manage student timetables and teacher schedules for the division.
  • Collaborate with the elementary and secondary divisions on whole school events.
  • Coordinate substitute and internal coverage for certified teaching staff.
  • Assume the responsibility of the operation of the Division when the Principal is not on campus;
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with members of the Pedagogical Leadership Team.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in all areas of responsibility.
  • Establish, maintain and nurture effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff.
  • Undertake other related and/or delegated duties.

Qualifications:

  • Alberta Teaching Certification.
  •  Bachelor of Education or equivalent.
  •  Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience with children aged 0-8.
  • Valid CPR & First Aid certificate or willing to obtain.
  • Fluently bilingual (French and English).
  •  One or more of the following would be assets:
    o   Course work or certifications in leadership, child development, early literacy.
    o   Training in, or knowledge of, the Alberta Early Learning and Care Framework (FLIGHT).
    o   Participation in CAIS modules.
    o   Enrolment in, or completion of, a relevant Master’s degree program.
    o   IB PYP training.
  •  Experience working in a licensed ECE setting is an asset.

The successful candidate will need to provide, or have on file, an updated Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work.

Salary:

As per the CFIS teaching salary grids. There is also a leadership stipend with this role.
