Hardware Customization Specialist

Fortinet is seeking a talented and motivated Hardware Customization Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, modifying, and optimizing hardware systems to meet the specific needs of our product pipeline. This position involves close collaboration with OEM vendors, CRB vendors, our product development, manufacturing, and software engineering teams to ensure the successful integration of custom hardware solutions. As a HW Customization Specialist at Fortinet, you will be responsible for the OEM products’ customization and tests of the relevant hardware development cycle of Fortinet’s products. You have to participate in the hardware customization and performance testing on different kinds of Intel/AMD CRBs and other hardware from the OEM vendors.
Responsibilities:
- Work with PM to design, develop, and customize hardware components to meet the products’ specifications.
- Modify existing vendors’ hardware platforms and solutions to integrate new features and optimize performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware design engineers, software engineers, product managers, manufacturing engineers, testing engineers, etc.) to ensure smooth integration of hardware, firmware and software systems.
- Conduct performance benchmark testing for the CRBs and customized samples to meet the Fortinet products baseline and positioning.
- Conduct testing, validation, and debugging of hardware components to meet quality standards.
- Develop detailed technical documentation for customized hardware solutions, including schematics function block diagram, parts layouts, and user manuals.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to hardware customization and innovation.
- Provide support for manufacturing processes, including design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Work closely with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of hardware components.
Skills Required:
- Hands on working knowledge with mechanical CAD design tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
- Proven expertise in Linux system.
- Understanding and use of any script language (python, perl and shell)
- Experience with hardware debugging and troubleshooting tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
- Familiar with TCP/IP and other networking protocols.
- Knowledge of verification and validation methodologies.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, BIOS and system design.
- Capable of switching focus in various situations and apply themselves to quickly learning new technologies and adopting new methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, with strong attention to details.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials, including prototyping and mass production.
Educational Requirements:
- BS or MS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.
