Position Summary:
As a Cyber Security Co-op Student, you will work with the cyber security team and assist with day-to-day operations, monitoring, and documentation of systems. You may be asked to participate in project-related work, incident investigations, information gathering, and work with other teams to resolve incidents and improve the security posture of UFA.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  1. Work on security remediation and improvement initiatives, as assigned.
  2. Monitor, investigate, and respond to security alerts.
  3. Assist with the maintenance and operation of security tools including but not limited to vulnerability scanners, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), DNS filtering, and endpoint protection.
  4. Assist with the detection, troubleshooting, and resolution of misconfigurations and/or communication errors with endpoint solutions.
  5. Assist with the creation and documentation of security operation processes (e.g., data flow diagrams, incident response playbooks, asset repository, etc.).
  6. Assist with other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications required for the position:
  1. Pursuing a post-secondary degree or similar in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  2. Previous experience in IT security and/or cyber security operations, e.g., via university classes, or previous work/internship/private experience.
  3. A working knowledge of Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365 security services would be considered an asset.
  4. Knowledge of relational database concepts and ability to write basic queries in SQL and/or KQL.
  5. Working knowledge of TCP/IP network fundamentals.
  6. Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, PowerShell, or Bash.
  7. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  8. Superior information gathering, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  9. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and deliver excellent results with minimal supervision.
  10. Professional and personable attitude.
  11. Curious and driven to seek answers.
