Staff Engineer

We are seeking a Staff Engineer to serve as a technology subject matter expert. Your responsibilities will include providing guidance to development teams on how to produce designs for high-quality scalable and performant solutions as well as creating the designs yourself. You will be joining our emerging architecture team and will have the opportunity to contribute to technical architecture process.

Let's break down the day-to-day a little further:- Team Support 50%
- Provide coaching and mentorship to engineering teams as it pertains to designs for large scale distributed systems.
- Conduct architecture reviews to ensure adherence to best practices and industry standards.
- Perform code reviews to maintain code quality.
- Assist junior team members in identifying and remediating technical challenges.
- Participate in tactical and strategic planning of key initiatives.
- Research and Design 40%
- Develop design solutions using cloud-based infrastructure, some coding will be required.
- Research and evaluate current and new technologies and their potential applications within the company.
- Stay updated on the latest Cloud and Distributed Application patterns and practices.
- Understand the business and how technology can be used to solve business problems.
- Design cost-effective solutions while considering implementation timeliness.
- Documentation 10%
- Creates and maintains documentation that helps others understand what the Architecture Process is, how it works, and things to consider when architecting.
More about you:
- 6-8 + years experience in Senior role or 1-2+ years experience as a Staff Engineer working with distributed systems, technology, and patterns.
- 5 + years experience Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- 5 + years experience Backend (NodeJs, Golang).
- 5 + years experience optimizing relational databases.
- Solid understanding of UML.
- Familiarity with Arc42 documentation system and C4 diagramming an advantage.
- Familiarity with formal modeling languages (P, TLA+, etc) an advantage.
- Clear understanding of how technology can be used to solve business problems.
- Ability to present to non-technical, senior business stakeholders.
- Understanding of infrastructure as code.
- Experience designing secure solutions for a code base, including timeline estimation and forecasting.
- A willingness to engage and help other team members learn.
- A passion for solving hard problems and delivering extraordinary software to customers.
