Job Summary:

The Employer Specialist is responsible for establishing long-term relationships with local employers to support their recruitment needs and to create work experience opportunities that lead to sustainable employment for youths. The Employer Specialist works collaboratively with the Case Manager to support youths in obtaining successful and sustainable employment.

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Makes cold calls and conducts online/in-person meetings with potential employers to develop work placement opportunities that match project participants’ skills, training, work experience, interests, and career goals.
  • Works collaboratively with Case Manager to understand youth’s needs and occupational goals.
  • Identifies employment opportunities that serve both the employers’ hire and the project’s placement needs.
  • Works with youth individually to identify and match a suitable employer for the Quality Employment Opportunity (QEO).
  • Provides ongoing support to both youth and employers to ensure training and development objectives are being met.
  • Provides youth with job maintenance support to achieve sustainable and permanent employment after QEO.
  • Manages the employers’ database.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Updates Case Manager on youth’s progress in achieving the goals outlined in their Action Plan.
  • Follows up with youth on a bi-weekly basis to consistently support, guide, and motivate them.
  • Keeps track of youth’s progress and provides regular follow-up support and guidance.
  • Develops a QEO plan with the participant and the employer to specify the placement objectives, goals, milestones, and expected outcomes for the placement.
  • Performs to achieve placement goals in accordance with project targets.
  • Customizes participants’ job search portfolio to fit identified opportunities and conducts mock interviews to prepare youth for job interviews.
  • Maintains productive ongoing relationships with existing employers and actively reaches out to establish relationships with new employers.

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Social Sciences, Social Work, Career Development or Vocational Rehabilitation.
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) or equivalent designation or demonstrated plan to pursue a similar designation.
  • Two years of work experience in a social service environment as a job developer, employer liaison, job coach, and/or employment case manager.
  • Experience in connecting with employers to provide job experience for clients.
  • Experience and knowledge in career counseling.
  • Experience in working with youth with complex barriers and challenges.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and group activities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build partnerships with employers of all sectors.
  • Ability to provide job search support for youth.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret client needs assessments.
  • Ability to support youth in developing realistic and achievable Action Plans.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employers.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Excellent technical skills in MS Office and web-based applications.

Additional Information:

  • Criminal Record Check Required.
  • Ability to work at multiple outreach locations across Greater Vancouver.
  • Ability to work occasionally on weekends and evenings as required.
