Summary

Reporting directly to the Pharmacy Manager, you will assist the pharmacist on duty by performing duties related to the preparation and dispensing of prescription drugs. You will also use your merchandising, sales, and customer service skills to build trust-based relationships and ensure complete patient satisfaction.

This position is Full Time with no evenings and limited weekends (Sunday’s off).

What you will do

  • Data entry, counting pills, labeling prescription products, and preparing blister packs for the pharmacist to check.
  • Prepare and send orders for prescription and front store products, receive and put away orders for both pharmacy and front store, and assist in managing inventory.
  • Answer phones, help customers and patients, and refer them to the pharmacist when required.
  • Ensure products stored in the pharmacy are kept in the correct conditions and monitor expiry dates for both front store and prescription products.

  • Keen attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Friendly demeanor and caring nature in all interactions.
  • Openly communicate any challenges, questions, or concerns with your Pharmacy Manager.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Diploma from a Pharmacy Assistant accredited program is an asset.
  • Prior Pharmacy experience is an asset.

The Position in Detail

  • Greeting patients in a professional, courteous, and considerate manner.
  • Respecting ethical limits for treating patients and confidentiality.
  • Gathering essential patient information and updating their records.
  • Answering patients’ questions and phone calls, processing repeat prescriptions, and entering new product data or prescriptions.
  • Packaging prescriptions and having them checked by the pharmacist.
  • Forwarding claims requests to insurers and resolving various claims problems.
  • Coordinating prescription and sterile product delivery service.
  • Safely managing biomedical waste.
  • Preparing and packaging sterile products and organizing the preparation of pill dispensers.
  • Making regular cash deposits, ordering change, and filling out a cash report.
  • Recording purchases in the electronic cash register and receiving payments as appropriate.
  • Providing sufficient quantities of required supplies to ensure smooth operations.
  • Ensuring the dispensary and its equipment are kept clean and disinfected.
  • Managing the supply of medicines and equipment needed to prepare prescriptions.
  • Keeping the dispensary inventory up to date and ordering from suppliers.
  • Checking the contents of orders on delivery and comparing with invoices and order forms.
  • Placing products in appropriate places and ensuring medicines are rotated according to expiration dates.
  • Processing freight claims with various companies and shipping returns.
  • Complying with workplace health and safety rules.
  • Performing all related tasks.
