Overview

The Ktunaxa Nation Council has an opportunity for a Ktunaxa Language Revitalization Manager in Cranbrook BC. Reporting to the Director of Traditional Knowledge & Language, the opportunity is suited for someone who is passionate about learning and sharing Ktunaxa language and culture, contributing to positive outcomes for Ktunaxanin̓tik.

This is a full-time permanent position with full benefits.

Responsibilities

The position is responsible to design the Language Revitalization Program as well as plan and implement the steps necessary to achieve Ktunaxa Language Revitalization. The Manager also ensures their work plans are aligned with the priorities and objectives of the entire KNC organization.

The Manager is the administrative and supervisory lead for their assignments and is responsible for the consistent management of staff, work plans, activities, and finances in their area of responsibility. Their individual work plans and objectives must be designed with:

  1. Efficient use of the resources assigned to them.
  2. Appropriate collaboration with Language and Culture staff at each of the Ktunaxa First Nations and sister organizations.
  3. Appropriate collaboration with other Sectors and Departments within KNC.
  4. Adherence to KNC policies and procedures.
  5. Advancement on Sector work plans and directives.
  6. Alignment as we work towards the achievement of the Ktunaxa Vision Statement.

The Manager is accountable to their Director for assignment leadership, operational management, financial control, and alignment with Sector and KNC objectives.

Qualifications

Ktunaxa Preparation

  • Competency with the Ktunaxa language
  • Excellent understanding of Ktunaxa traditional knowledge and language
  • Ability to relate to and work well with Elders and Cultural Advisors
  • Preference will be given to those that:
  • ʔat ʔuni·ⱡuʔkqa ʔa·kⱡukqaʔis Ktunaxa (speak)
  • ʔat hawasxuʔmik (sing)
  • wukati hawiȼa·kati (barely visible)
  • qa qaqaq̓maʔⱡwi ⱡak kniⱡⱡiʔtiⱡ ʔa·k̓ⱡananiⱡwi·tik (Ideas)

Academic Preparation

  • Post Secondary education in Business Administration, Language Revitalization, Linguistics, Leadership or Other Related Discipline

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Management experience in Strategic Planning, Budgeting / Financial Management, Program Planning / Funding / Development, and Policy Development and Implementation.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Strong knowledge of Language Revitalization Practices.
  • Ability to lead people in a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional/strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, identify and effectively manage priorities and manage workload.
Work Experience

Experience / Expertise

  • Five (5) years of management experience
  • Significant experience engaging with citizens/communities in a First Nations environment is required.
  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary level of expertise will be considered
