Description
Area: Health System Structure and Outcomes
Duration: Two years with possibility of extension
Start Date: Upon recruitment of a suitable candidate
Salary: $50,000 per annum plus benefits (plus $1,500 per annum research allowance)
The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Health System Structure and Outcomes.
Job Description:
Dr. Braden Manns, the David Freeze Chairholder at the University of Calgary, is accepting applications for a Fellowship in health system structure and outcomes, to be based in Calgary, Alberta. The postdoctoral scholar will work under the supervision of Dr. Braden Manns, Professor of Medicine and Health Economics in the Departments of Medicine. He holds a CIHR Foundation award in health system funding.
This Postdoctoral Fellowship will train an emerging leader in health system structure and outcomes. The two key areas of focus are:
- Determining the long-term impact of having a provincial health authority, compared to regional authorities, using quantitative analyses of secondary data obtained from the Canadian Institute for Health Information and other sources.
- Examining the decision-making processes and short-term impacts of recent changes to health authority structures, using qualitative methods.
Although there is an opportunity to work on both areas of focus, this applicant will be more directly involved with the first quantitative area of focus.
In addition to the research outlined above, the successful PDF will lead work on a CIHR grant application. Fellowship output will also include opportunities to disseminate to academic, clinical, operational, and lay audiences to inform local and provincial policy, procedures, and decision-making in an evolving learning health system.
Preference will be given to those who hold advanced (PhD) training in research methodology relevant to the first aim above (health services research, biostatistics, health policy). Expertise in qualitative methods will be regarded as an asset.
Our research team offers close mentorship, opportunities to contribute to a wide variety of research projects in health systems topics, and a collegial and supportive working environment. The expectation is for recruited Fellows to apply for funding support at the university, provincial, and national level.
Successful candidates will be fluent in English and be eligible to reside in Canada during the Fellowship.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants will have completed their PhD within the last 3 years, or have an MD degree and substantial research expertise in one of the methodological areas highlighted above with a competitive publication list and academic record.
Application Details:
Individuals interested in this opportunity should submit the following via email:
- Letter of interest
- Curriculum vitae
- Any relevant publications
- Names and contact information of three references
Please submit applications to the following email: Dr. Braden Manns (bjmanns@ucalgary.ca). This posting will remain open until a successful candidate has been found.
The terms and conditions of employment are covered under the UCalgary and PDAC Collective Agreement. To find out more about the postdoctoral scholar program at the University of Calgary, visit our Postdocs website.
