The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety provides supervision and rehabilitation services for adult and young offenders, promotes appropriate and effective policing, and supports community and public safety services throughout Saskatchewan.

The Ministry is responsible for overseeing Saskatchewan's correctional system and facilities, protection of people, natural resources and infrastructure within the province of Saskatchewan. The Opportunity:

The Ministry is looking for an innovative and dynamic leader with exceptional financial problem-solving, analytical, strategic and communication skills. Reporting to the Executive Director of Central Services, this role involves overseeing strategic resource planning, managing expenditures and revenues, and ensuring the protection of public funds. The Director will oversee spending of the ministry's budget including the analysis and administration of divisional expenditures, revenues, FTEs, and cost-sharing agreements, including contractual rights and obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial services team, including planning, reporting, risk management and internal controls;
  • Lead financial change management for the ministry.
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet the annual financial plan.
  • Oversee financial services, including revenue and expenditure management, reporting, forecasting, and budget development while ensuring audit and Financial Administration Compliance.
  • Create and maintain effective management reporting systems and financial controls.
  • Provide analytical advice on strategic programs and financial opportunities and risks to ministry management.
  • Oversee the ministry audit function
  • Act as the liaison with the Provincial Comptroller's Office
Qualifications:
  • Professional accounting designation and a university degree in Commerce or Business Administration, along with significant financial management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial management and accounting principles, preferably within the public sector.
  • Experience analyzing information from various sources to develop practical policies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and influence outcomes.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Innovative thinker with strong conceptual skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
