Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The EDCSSMU Training Coordinator is to manage, create, update, and deliver training around eating disorders, diet culture and workout culture to all members of the EDCSSMU and the McGill community. Internally, they provide training and guidance to prepare support volunteers for their roles. Throughout the semester, they are available to help and support volunteers and may provide additional training as needed. Externally, they may run public events, or deliver direct training to specific groups and services around campus. Further, they continuously update and expand upon the Eating Disorder Centre of SSMU training materials through consultations with a wide range of experts on the topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate the continuous development and review of Eating Disorder Centre of SSMU training materials;
  2. Review and provide content for eating disorder-related training materials of other peer support organizations;
  3. Consult with relevant stakeholders and community organizations on training materials;
  4. Be responsible for providing support, events, and communications volunteers with centre- and role-specific training at the beginning of each semester;
  5. Check-in with volunteers regularly throughout the semester and provide feedback and additional training when needed;
  6. Arrange for external organizations and facilitators to provide anti-oppression trainings to Eating Disorder Centre of SSMU members;
  7. Reach out to different organizations on campus to develop collaborations, relationships and provide trainings;
  8. Create a variety of trainings relating to normalized toxic behaviors around food, exercise and bodies;
  9. Conduct surveys and assess interest and need for different training content;
  10. Provide trainings and workshops to external organizations, McGill student services, and the wider McGill community;
  11. Work with the Campaign and General Coordinators to create, arrange and provide trainings for divisions of the McGill & Montreal Community around eating disorders;
  12. Complete the facilitation guide, ensuring all steps are checked to ensure seamless facilitation;
  13. Collect and keep organized data on all internal and external trainings throughout the term;
  14. Check in with an appointed admin team member to check progress and voice issues/concerns.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

To undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by EDCSSMU Administrative Branch.

Qualifications
  1. Strong understanding of current mental health initiatives and issues, particularly in a university context;
  2. Comfort and knowledge of all current and past operations and events of the service;
  3. Past experience as a support volunteer in a mental health organization, within the EDCSSMU is an asset;
  4. Extensive knowledge around eating disorders including but not limited to clinical treatment, discrimination, privilege, queer body image, trauma, and substance abuse;
  5. Workshop facilitation experience;
  6. Diligence and impartiality in execution of duties;
  7. Ability to work effectively under pressure;
  8. Active listening experience;
  9. Outreach and Relationship Building skills;
  10. Organized and capable of following through on a project;
  11. Initiative and results driven;
  12. Management and leadership skills;
  13. Relationship building and negotiation skills;
  14. Able to work independently and in a team environment;
  15. Knowledge of the SSMU and McGill University;
  16. Demonstrated understanding of anti-racism and anti-oppressive practice;
  17. Lived experience or knowledge relating to eating disorders or mental illness an asset;
  18. Strong communication skills both in English and French an asset;
  19. Involvement in Mental Health initiatives on campus is an asset.

  • Paid position: $15.96
  • Contract dates: May 20th, 2024 to May 31st, 2025
