Job Title: Structural Engineer – Port Colbourne
We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Port Colborne Engineering & Projects group. This position has accountabilities to deliver engineering design and studies as well as manage the planning and execution of Projects for the Port Colborne Refinery.
The successful candidate will be a member of Vale Engineering & Projects Group based in Port Colborne Ontario. The position involves regular work in the plant.
The candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
Accountabilities:
- Ability to use structural software for structural analysis.
- Responsible for the integrity of designs produced under his/her technical direction and legally approves and seals designs and drawings as per the Professional Engineers Act.
- Provides technical direction for complex engineering designs within his/her area of expertise and assists and guides other design personnel.
- Conduct complex engineering studies, conduct field inspections, and prepare relevant reports.
- Participates in the review of construction and commissioning and start-up functions.
- Applies mature engineering knowledge and exercises leadership, mentoring, and training to other design personnel.
- Manages the work of design personnel when assigned to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes, and standards.
- Conducts reviews of engineering consultant's engineering designs, drawings, and specifications on assigned projects.
- Is familiar with the latest codes, acts, and regulations and keeps abreast of technology and latest developments in his/her design field.
About You
Education:
- An Engineering Degree in Structural Engineering.
- A Professional Engineering Designation.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Structural Engineering field.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of structural design and analysis for various types of structures.
- Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber design.
- Strong knowledge of various mining, smelting and refining structures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of SAP or ERP solutions software is highly desirable.
- Experience as a Project Engineer and/or knowledge of CAPEX/OPEX project execution is highly desirable.
