Habitat for Humanity Niagara manages a portfolio of affordable homes, empowers volunteers and homeowners, and operates a social enterprise that includes three Habitat for Humanity Niagara ReStores.

About the ReStore Manager:

The Habitat ReStore is a retail store selling donated new and used merchandise including building/renovation material, furniture, and much more. The ReStore manager, reporting to the Director of Operations, is responsible for the daily, on-site supervision of all store operations including merchandising and pricing of product, shipping and receiving, inventory management, customer service, cash sales, health and safety, store layout and product display, and staff and volunteer supervision and development. We are looking for a creative and innovative ReStore manager with a keen eye for the design and display of merchandise within our ReStore.

As the ReStore Manager you will be responsible for:Sales and Customer Service
  • Ensure every employee and volunteer provides superior customer service to all customers.
  • Ensure retail sales are maximized through a variety of means, such as upselling and marketing products effectively within the store.
Inventory and Merchandising
  • Ensure all products are priced appropriately and that all pricing procedures are followed.
  • Collaborate with other ReStore managers to ensure consistency in pricing amongst all three ReStores.
  • Ensure effective and efficient inventory flow from intake through to purchase.
  • Provide optimal merchandising layouts to maximize sales and ensure the safety and cleanliness of the store.
Procurement
  • Actively engage in seeking, maintaining, and growing partnerships within the community to acquire product for the ReStores.
  • Educate others, within the organization and in the community regarding the need for product, type of product, and the benefits to the organization on receiving product and the resulting benefit(s) and recognition to the donor.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications team for promotional items and activities to increase donations and visibility.
  • Work with Director of Philanthropy and Major Gifts to grow the donor relationship in areas including monetary donations, build GIK and build day participation.
  • Work with Habitat Canada to acquire product for the Niagara ReStore group for the Niagara community and beyond.
Safety and Warehouse Maintenance
  • Ensure all staff and volunteers receive proper health and safety training and follow the requirements daily.
  • Ensure aisles are clear of product or any other safety hazard.
  • Ensure the entire store, including bathrooms, staff area and all merchandising units and products are cleaned on a regular basis.
  • Oversee maintenance and improvements to the physical warehouse to improve operations, following a regular warehouse maintenance schedule including such things as fire extinguishers, fire alarms, truck maintenance, and any items used to operate the warehouse.
  • Responsible for the wellbeing and safety of all staff, volunteers and shoppers and ensures appropriate steps are followed when safety concerns arise.
Volunteer Program
  • Manage all volunteers in the ReStore, recognizing the critical role for volunteers in the ReStore organization and takes positive steps to develop and nurture these volunteers.
  • Work in partnership with Affiliate staff to train, manage and recognize all volunteers in meaningful ways.
Finance and Administration
  • Work with Director of Operations to set the annual budget for ReStore revenue and expenses.
  • Manage the operations budget and ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency of operations to maximize profitability.
  • Create monthly ReStore reports that articulate a snapshot of the current state of the ReStore.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting practices including the reconciling of daily sales, the daily closing out of all financial transactions, and preparation of all invoices for payment.
  • Establish the value of all gift-in-kind donations ensuring compliance with existing policies and Canadian Revenue Agency regulations.
  • Create and post staff schedules, ensuring use of the online tool to support reporting.
Human Resources
  • Recruit, train, orient, schedule, and supervise all ReStore staff and ensure that all Human Resources policies and procedures are followed.
  • Hold regular staff and volunteer briefings and meetings.
HFHN Ambassador
  • Attend and participate in all ReStore-related training opportunities.
  • Be a leader in customer service presenting the story of Habitat for Humanity to the ReStore donor and customer base whenever possible.
  • Provide team leadership and a positive role model to staff and volunteers.
Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:
  • Extensive background in retail management, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing people and processes.
  • Ability to build relationships and network in the community with private donors, small businesses, and corporate prospects and partners to secure donated product for the ReStore.
  • Experience creating, analyzing, and monitoring financial reports.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office programs, POS systems and general technology.
  • Physical ability to work in the warehouse, in salvage as required and procurement activities.
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation required along with ability and willingness to operate cube truck and forklift.
  • Must be able and willing to work regularly scheduled Saturdays.
  • Strong belief in the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift merchandise at least 40lbs frequently.
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing of stairs/ladders.
