Job Title: ITMC Telecommunications Engineer/Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Engineer/Officer to join our team at Hydroone. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and restoring telecommunications services on a wide range of technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the operation of the ITMC by providing front-line technical support for platform/service issues reported on various telecommunication systems and/or networks.
  2. Document and perform all Incident Management activities including investigation, triage, and correlation of alarms in provided ticketing system(s).
  3. Manage all aspects of Telecom NOMS slips and Change Requests (CRQ) for all production networks.
  4. Perform Impact Analysis through the use of various software applications.
  5. Participate in major incident conference calls involving management and technical teams as required.
  6. Assist in the implementation of planned network change activities and other tasks required to support telecom service delivery.
  7. Maintain strong telecom knowledge in technologies and platforms used to deliver services.
  8. Participate in various technical training opportunities on platforms used to deliver services.
  9. Assist in special projects or assignments, such as participating in a committee as a member, participating in interdepartmental studies on telecom-related issues.
  10. Assist in the planning and implementation of work programs.
  11. Recommend changes and maintain knowledge on new products and services.
  12. Assist in the development, implementation, and provisioning of designs for telecommunications systems.
  13. Provide ad hoc support to off-site teams where required.
  14. Monitor acceptance testing and alarms testing, and remotely inspect telecom facilities, as required.

Requirements:

  1. Requires knowledge of electrical engineering specializing in telecommunications.
  2. Requires current knowledge of emerging telecommunication technologies.
  3. Requires a good knowledge of English to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.

Experience:

  1. Requires experience in telecom systems and networks.
  2. Requires experience with the established corporate telecom infrastructure.
  3. Requires experience with the operation, maintenance of microwave, PLC, VHF/UHF radio, fibre optics, and wired-based transmission systems.
  4. Requires experience and familiarity with commercial telecom service offerings.
  5. A period of over four, up to and including six years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.
