The Director of CYSN (Children & Youth with Support Needs) is responsible for the leadership and oversight of CYSN services across the Agency to ensure the programs are meeting operating standards and best practices, including program curriculum development. The Director works directly with infants, children, youth and their families and is responsible for educating and training new staff on professional and clinical skills.

This is a one-year term position, with the term starting upon hire.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participates as a member of the Agency Leadership Team in developing long-range and strategic plans, assessing and resolving operational issues and policies. In co-operation with the Vice President CYSN, develops performance objectives and operational plans, based on the strategic plan, and ensures that those objectives are met.
  • Plans, organizes, directs and co-ordinates program and service delivery for the organization, in accordance with Agency Vision, Mission Statement, Core Values, and risk management practice and policy. Ensures effective program/service delivery consistent with agency mandate and policy, legal, contractual, budgetary, and other requirements.
  • Develops and cultivates new and existing relationships with funders to secure and expand funding and grant revenue streams. Generates sufficient revenue to cover operational costs and identifies growth opportunities and priorities.
Financial Management
  • Under the guidance of the Budget Committee, plans and develops related annual operating budgets, and manages, reviews and forecasts associated expenditures ensuring best use of resources to meet programming goals.
  • Accountable for meeting expectations of the annual budget, and ensures compliance within approved budget guidelines, and that related expenditures adhere to Agency financial policies.
People
  • Leads, develops, manages and supports staff. Manages, directs and supervises assigned staff; hires, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary and ensures that staff resources are managed effectively to meet the service delivery requirements of the Stream. Conducts performance management and, when required, disciplinary action.
  • Promotes employee engagement through active listening, coaching and developing, ongoing recognition and individual performance expectations and action planning.
  • Identifies training and professional development needs for staff that directly impact program quality.
  • Supports and empowers staff to make connections with children, families and colleagues through positive caring relationships.
  • Creates opportunities for collaborative dialogue to reflect, explore new ways of thinking, and deepen the understanding of practice.
  • Provides and promotes a culturally safe and trauma-informed work environment for all staff.
Program
  • Practice with culturally safe, trauma-informed, relational, person and family-centered approaches.
  • Establish and maintain respectful relationships with team members and families.
  • Perform duties of generalist or family support worker as listed above.
  • Provide clinical oversight to family support workers and generalists.
  • Provide clinical consultation and mentorship related to practice and to cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Degree in a social services or human services discipline.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support, and community resources.
  • Minimum combined 3 years experience in the following areas:
    • Working within a multi-disciplinary team.
    • System navigation.
    • Establishing trusting relationships with children, youth, and families.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience, including clinical oversight.
  • Working in the community with children, youth, or young adults with disabilities and their families.
  • Knowledge of early child development.
