Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Hazardous Materials Field Technician to join our team in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), Ontario. As a Hazardous Materials Field Technician, you will assist project managers with assessment, design, and oversight of hazardous materials abatement project. This is a great opportunity to work with subject matter experts in this field providing training and mentorship to build a unique skill set for your career progression. Hybrid opportunity with the ability to travel to site as required (70% field work).

The Hazardous Materials Field Technician will sit within the larger Global Resilience Business Area. The rate at which we're seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is becoming more frequent. Role accountabilities:

The successful candidate will coordinate and execute activities assigned by Project Managers pertaining to the design, implementation, and management of hazardous materials assessment and abatement projects and occupational health exposure assessments. This includes conducting site visits and inspections, performing air sampling, monitoring remediation activities, and preparing field notes and reports. The preferred candidate will have an interest in taking on increasing responsibilities, including preparing technical specifications. Strong attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to work some evenings and/or weekends.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Conduct site investigations for hazardous materials including asbestos, lead, mould, etc.
  2. Conduct indoor air quality assessments, noise assessments, radon monitoring and worker exposure assessments.
  3. Completion of designated substance surveys.
  4. Manage field notes and prepare technical reports.
  5. Availability to work some evenings and/or weekends.

Valid driver's license required as this role will require travel to site.

Qualifications & Experience:

Technical Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science, Building Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Occupational Health, and Safety, Construction-related field or related field preferred. 3+ years practical experience conducting designated substance surveys and abatement monitoring.
