What we’re looking for

Kongsberg Geospatial is seeking an IT Specialist for a 8 month contract to collaborate with our support team. The role involves installing and maintaining computer systems and networks, with the goal of achieving optimal functionality. A successful IT Specialist must have knowledge of computer software and hardware and a variety of internet applications, networks and operating systems. The ideal candidate will also have great troubleshooting abilities and attention to detail.

This position is required to be onsite in the Kanata office 5 days per week.

Duties include

  • Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers etc.)
  • Manage help desk interactions, conference room setups and employee moves
  • Create virtual machines and environments
  • Potentially create small Cloud deployments for testing and experimenting, and teaching developers how to use them
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications
  • Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance
  • Manage software licenses, installations, and documentation, including active directory, group policies, firewalls, antivirus, and email security
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging software, etc.)
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
  • Document installation and configuration procedures

You have

  • Post-secondary degree in a field related to IT and/or two years of relevant experience
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
  • Knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
  • Interest in both Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Understanding of computer networking
  • Interest in doing research on how to deploy and configure complex systems, including hardware and software (Virtual Reality SDKs, new development environments, etc)
  • Other duties as assigned

It will be great if you have….

  • Knowledge of scripting for automation would be an asset
  • Knowledge of databases installation, optimization and upgrade would be an asset
