A collaborative effort across various House of Commons sectors aims to pinpoint potential candidates for Senior Director and Director positions. The objective is to seek out proactive individuals eager to broaden their competencies and lead transformative initiatives within the organization. The successful candidates would have the opportunity to work within one of the following service domains: Human Resource Services, Parliamentary Precinct Operations, Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Corporate Security, Digital Services and Real Property or Audit and Improvement.

This recruitment and selection process is open to employees of the House of Commons at the ADG-B level and above who satisfy the following conditions:

  • Ability to obtain an endorsement from their current superior.
  • Capable of providing a copy of their most recent Performance Management Evaluation.
  • Candidates who hold aprimary position at theADG-B levelwill be required to be in their role for a minimum of 24 months.

*Preference may be given to candidates that have successfully completed the Clerk’s Leadership Program.

The Senior Director and Director level positions offer unique opportunities to shape the future of our organization and drive meaningful impact in our various initiatives.

Our leadership positions focus on offering guidance for developing, implementing, and advocating strategic and operational planning frameworks. These frameworks prioritize the delivery of programs and services aligning with the service area's vision for effective management, which complements and supports the House of Commons' overall vision and mission.

Senior Directors at the House of Commons incorporate the organization's vision into their teams' everyday work, enabling delivery on the objectives of the institution. They play a critical role in imparting the vision, high level guidance, and support their teams in navigating the implications and the outcome of their decisions on the House and its’ Members. By ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, they drive impactful decision-making and contribute to a more inclusive, innovative, and efficient House of Commons.

Directors at the House of Commons serve as the vital link between the strategic vision of the organization and the specific program or services under their purview. Within a dynamic and client-centric environment, they facilitate collaboration across various programs and services, ensuring seamless coordination and alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Additionally, they foster a supportive environment for employees, encouraging their professional growth and development while promoting a culture of teamwork and innovation.

Education:

  • A university degree in a related field, OR an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Required commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.

Experience for both Senior Director and Director Roles:

  • Experience as an inclusive and empathetic leader who has led diverse teams with an emphasis on developing others, creating unity across teams and driving their collaboration;
  • Solid understanding of the context and comprehensive knowledge of the complexities of the parliamentary precinct;
  • Proven track record of applying complex and conceptual systems thinking to solving organizational challenges;
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring exceptional service delivery and client satisfaction at all levels;
  • Extensive experience in advising senior officials on complex issues;
  • Proficiency in negotiation skills and stakeholder engagement with the ability to consider multiple viewpoints and navigate challenging conversations in a productive way;
  • Expertise in strategic planning principles and service delivery practices;
  • Experience leading change initiatives, fostering buy-in for innovative approaches, and ensuring changes are in sync with transformational strategies;
  • Experience determining and balancing priorities and resource allocation to achieve objectives; connecting budgetary strategies with processes and program area objectives;
  • Experience uncovering the unique needs of others, adjusting their communication style and successfully inspiring teams to take action and achieve ambitious goals and deliver high-quality results.

Additional Experience Required for Senior Director Roles:

  • Experience facilitating collaboration across service areas, harmonizing strategies, crafting performance metrics, and frameworks;
  • Experience leveraging teams to create change, enabling a climate of healthy risk taking, and focus on innovation;
  • Recent experience demonstrating an intentional approach to building strong networks for the purpose of organizational improvement;
  • Extensive experience in developing strategic and multi-year business plans, coupled with proficiency in vision development and exerting influence, resource forecasting, and in managing project and operational budgets.
