The Role
The Director, Business Reporting and Analytics is responsible for providing strategic and operational business leadership to a portfolio of business applications specifically for the Capital Markets operations. This role is expected to facilitate communication between the business and Engineering by soliciting input and expertise from business subject matter experts and the technology teams. Working together with business units, external vendors, and internal technology teams, this role is expected to champion the optimal mix of business process and technology solutions to best address business needs or opportunities.
The Director, Business Reporting and Analytics is accountable for defining, designing, and implementing technology solutions for a suite of business applications in a complex environment considering current and future needs. Instrumental in the establishment and implementation of best practices as it relates to project documentation for analysis and testing.
This role facilitates and leads business process improvement via the methodical investigation, analysis, review, and documentation of business specifications. This role also manages the requirements development process through the elicitation, analysis, specification, and verification of multiple levels of requirements from an end-to-end perspective and supports the ongoing management of the requirements.
The role will ensure that project management and business analysis skills are executed and applied in the execution of work assignments, and to exhibit innovative ideas to influence positive project outcomes and systems improvements.
The Director, Business Reporting and Analytics will also coordinate and manage the implementation and/or integration of products or new features for the business unit and its clients including training. This role is also expected to manage Business projects as assigned and provide ongoing coaching and mentoring on BA skills and techniques to less experienced Business Analysts.
Contribute to the direction of the technical evolution in order to support the achievement of business strategic plans
- Represent the Line of Business in order to ensure the technology meets current and future business needs.
- Oversee the integration of machine learning projects and business processes in order to support proof of concept and production.
- Recommend and develop process improvements to the Capital Markets team to improve quality and decrease costs.
- Oversee and support analytics projects.
- Lead and manage complex project plans, issue management, risk identification and management, change management, and resource management utilizing best practices and methodology.
- Work with MCAP’s Data Engineering Team and external service providers to translate business needs into system requirements.
- Review with stakeholders and obtain sign-off on accuracy and completeness.
- Manage Business Requirements throughout the life of the project and ensure changes identified in later phases are fully incorporated into all remaining project phases and documentation.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of existing applications to leverage & optimize technology.
- Recommend alternate options if presented solutions are not satisfactory.
- Development of business cases and project charters and project approaches.
- Lead the analysis of data, where required, to support the development of business cases and evaluation of benefits after a project completes.
- Define & implement best practices for business analysis.
Ensure Quality of the Business Applications
- Lead the project plan from initial project identification to implementation phase.
- Develop and maintain project documentation (Project plan, Issue and Action Logs, Risk Management, Project Status Report, Lessons Learned, Post Implementation Reviews).
- Apply data gathering, analysis techniques and business/system knowledge to translate business requirements into systems requirements.
- Document traceable, measurable business system requirements and review with stakeholders and obtain sign-off on accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee and approve system implementations to support the business unit.
- Oversee timely project deliverables of internal & external partners to ensure smooth transition into the production environment.
- Manage the data elements between the various internal teams/systems.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert with respect to data and controls around data.
- Monitor and escalate system availability and production problems.
- Work with subject matter experts to resolve outstanding issues.
- Recognize and/or anticipate system problems and business issues.
- Analyze the source and impact of all identified system or procedural problems.
- Oversee and manage the data being ingested from various origination systems by ensuring proper testing and validation prior to implementation.
Data Integrity
- Ensure MCAP can report accurately on loan parameters and performance, as well as on operational performance to a variety of external stakeholders including: auditors, lenders, and investors.
- Responsible for accuracy of data used for management reporting.
- Responsible for accurate transition of information during portfolio conversion.
- Manage system access.
Work as part of the Business team to Implement Appropriate Technology Solutions
- Review and provide input to test plans by documenting Use Cases and creating test case scenarios and validating test results.
- Identify business and technical project risks and propose associated mitigation strategies in conjunction with the rest of the project team.
- Facilitate and lead communications between business unit and IT Technical resources.
- Lead and maintain business process analysis & recommendations for process improvements.
- Conducts and chairs project team meetings (Steering Committee, Project Working Groups, daily standups).
- Present options to the business unit sponsor/leader and get sign off on selected option.
- Work with the architects and designers to create detailed business requirements, and test plans.
- Work as part of an Agile team to document user stories and develop new solutions to meet business needs.
Relationship Management
- Communicate regularly with executive management and administration regarding the status of current project initiatives; obtains executive guidance and approval as required to advance initiatives.
- Responsible for communicating to project stakeholders including the leadership team and client project teams and to transfer their PM knowledge/skills to other members of the Implementation team.
- Manage relationships with stakeholders, project teams, and external vendors ensuring that project delivery expectations are clearly defined and met. Build and maintain a customer relationship.
Develop Staff
- Develop and champion the company’s Vision, Mission, and Values as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally within the industry.
- Assist in the continuous evolution of the Capital Markets team and coach/mentor new business and IT team members in the use of the various systems and processes used to manage the business.
- Provide leadership to junior team members by staying informed about technology trends and business needs to ensure the appropriate technologies are supporting the business.
- Act as a knowledge expert and mentor for Business Analysis Job Stream.
- Identify training materials or courses for BA skills.
- Lead & coach Analysts in Business Unit.
Lead and Manage Staff
- Champion the company’s Vision, Mission, and Values as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally within the industry.
- Recruit and develop the right people that believe in and reflect in their behavior MCAP’s Values and culture.
- Establish, monitor, and communicate performance standards to direct reports reinforcing individual results, work quality, continuous improvement, teamwork and achievement of MCAP’s objectives.
- Educate, coach, and counsel staff to ensure they are empowered to effectively handle their roles in a confident and professional manner.
- Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the business unit.
- Ensure a continuous improvement culture is established and encouraged.
What You Bring To The Team
- Understanding of Information Technology concepts.
- Experience in the Financial Services industry.
- Experience in Finance or Enterprise Analytics environment would be an asset.
- Adheres to best practices as outlined by the International Institute of Business Analysts (IIBA).
- Adheres to best practices as outlined by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
- Minimum of 5 years Management experience.

- Strong Excel and SQL skills is desirable.
- Knowledge of Machine Learning technologies is an asset.
