Our experts work together to meet the highest standards in the industry and innovate to exceed them.We are seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer to join our teams located in any one of our Canadian offices, with preference for Calgary, AB. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in structural engineering and structural dynamics principles, be proficient in FEA, analytical, detail-oriented, a critical thinker, and a problem solver. They will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks on a range of challenging and rewarding projects in our Energy division.What you can expect to do hereEstablish design criteria, prepare engineering specifications, design calculations, and material take-offs (MTO) in accordance with project requirements.Support planning, scheduling, and cost-control activities in the design as related to the Project Plan.Propose solutions for improving or optimizing processes, programs, and procedures; assist in resolving complex problems requiring comprehensive analysis and multi-disciplinary understanding.Contribute to knowledge transfer by providing guidance, coaching, and peer review to less experienced professionals or technicians.Participate in planning and implementation of large and complex projects requiring innovative solutions.Conduct on-site inspections as required.Develop detailed civil and structural designs, including concrete foundations, piling, and steel structures.Prepare documentation for engineering hours budgets, schedules, work plans, tender documents, technical reports, and project calculations.Assign and provide directions to technical support staff.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and team members.Ensure Quality Assurance and the integrity of electronic handovers of deliverables.Review and stamp drawings as required, interpreting design codes and regulatory requirements.Review the work of and assist in training less experienced engineering personnel.Communicate with internal peers and project teams and respond to questions regarding deliverables.What you’ll bring to WSPA university degree in Structural Engineering (MSc or PhD asset).Registered as a P.Eng or PE in a Provincial Engineering Association in Canada or the US.5+ years of experience in civil structural design within the energy industry.Ideally experience with power plants, dynamic foundations and/or rotating equipment.Working knowledge of software such as SAP2000, ETABS, S-Frame, STAAD Pro, Dyna6, etc.Experience with Python is an asset.Good report writing skills.Familiarity with design codes for concrete and steel structures and current industrial standards.Proficiency in MS Office.Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work well in a team.Solid organization and time management skills.About UsWSP is one of the world's leading professional services firms.
