Civil Estimator

Key Information

Analyze contract documents (drawings, specifications, contract deliverables, etc.) to prepare self-perform cost estimates of projects for earthworks and Undergrounds projects (site development, road building, detail excavation). Assemble accurate, timely, and well-organized estimates, including hard-bid, construction management, and design-build.

Hours: Based on a 40-hour work week (8 hours a day, Monday - Friday), with overtime as required. Hourly rate is dependent on experience. Health benefits and vacation pay offered.

Responsibilities
  1. Analyze contract documents (drawings, specifications, contract deliverables, etc.) to prepare self-perform cost estimates of projects for earthworks (site development, road building, detail excavation).
  2. Assemble accurate, timely, and well-organized estimates, including hard-bid, construction management, and design-build.
  3. Prepare quantity take-offs.
  4. Organize subcontractor quotes when the bid is successful, re-writing binders and assisting the buy-out process.
  5. Set up new cost estimates in bidding software.
  6. Develop schedule for accuracy and determine production rates.
  7. Contact subcontractors and vendors for specific divisions to get external pricing.
  8. Monitor the success of a project, noting potential challenges and building relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities.
  9. Identify potential project risks.
  10. Attend pre-tender meetings & site visits, where applicable.
  11. Work with proposal & operations teams in writing execution methodology, safety plans, Indigenous Engagement Strategies, and quality documentation.
  12. Present Estimate to management for Review.
Experience and Certification Requirements
  • Project Management and Field Experience is an asset
  • 1+ years of civil construction experience is an asset
  • 3+ years of estimating experience
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and reliable with a positive disposition
  • Good communicator with attention to detail and good documentation skills
  • Proficient English language skills required
  • A reliable means of transportation is required
Education

Civil Engineer Degree or equivalent experience is an asset.
