Director Business Development

Destination St. John’s is currently seeking an energetic and committed Director of Business Development for the organization. The Director of Business Development will report directly to the CEO of the organization.

The Director of Business Development is accountable for leading the business development team primarily in the following areas:

Key Responsibilities:

·      Developing, executing and monitoring the annual sales plan and budget, covering all sectors including Business Events, Leisure Travel (Group Tour and Consumer) and Event Tourism.

·      Leading the Business Development Team in all aspects of their work, including annual work plans, targets and evaluations.

·      Providing leadership to the Business Development team by way of mentorship, coaching, recognition of valued contributions and accountability and Performance Development Program (PDP).

·      Selling to the national and international Business Events market, including trade shows, sales missions, site inspections, FAM tours, bid preparation, sales follow-up, and special client promotions, conferences and sponsorships; national sales partnerships (Cities in Sync) and prospecting for new business opportunities.

·      Maintaining membership in and networking with various associations such as Canadian Association of Society Executives and Meeting Planners International

·      Collaborating with the Director of Marketing, Experience Development and Partnerships and other staff to ensure that all sales and marketing activities are aligned with sales plans toward common goals.

·      Collaborating with DSJ’s tourism partners, and their Directors of Sales and Marketing (DOSM’s) and Sales Managers (SMs) to ensure effective and coordinated seller programs and activities.

·      Collaborating with municipal, provincial and federal government agencies to optimize sales prospects and opportunities

·      Report preparation including monthly statistical sales reports, convention listing, special board reports, bi-monthly sales manager activity reports, sales trip reports, preparation of annual sales activity reports for DSJ Annual Report and delegate survey

·      Overseeing management of DSJ sales database/Simpleview.

Requirements – Skill Sets:

·      Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and customer relationship management software.

·      Strong oral and written communications skills.

·      Excellent sales skills.

·      Strong leadership skills.

·      Strong supervisory skills

·      Strong organizational/project management abilities.

·      Extensive knowledge of group sales - national convention market, event tourism, and group tour

·      Working knowledge of the consumer market and the hotel industry

·      Extensive knowledge of all aspects of the tourism industry in NL.

·      Expertise and passion for sales and ability to motivate others

·      General knowledge and understanding of the use of social media platforms

Compensation commensurate on education and experience.
